| Our computer volunteer has some students who are learning what they want to know about the Internet. One morning recently, I was in my office adjacent to the room where the learning computer is located as he was working with a lady who comes from north Alabama for lessons. I dont know which of them enjoyed it most. The student was very appreciative, and the teacher seemed to enjoy the time as well. If you would like to learn how to navigate in the computer world, Winston will walk you through it, step by step, as slowly and as many times as necessary for you to understand. We have the computer available here at the Center for any member to use. You can go on the internet, play some games that are on it, or use any of the other programs available. Over the years, we have accumulated a lot of photographs of our activities, and we have a lot of extra copies. We will put these out for members to have. We have pictures of shuffleboard tournaments, District, State and National Senior Games, trips and tours, water aerobics, arts and crafts classes, parties and open house events, birthday and anniversary celebrations, cards, and other activities here at the Center. Come look through these for pictures of friends you would like to have or pictures of yourself that your family would like to have. Therell be no charge for the photos, but you may make a small donation if you wish. Our Travelers Trips and Tours booklet with our 2006 schedule is now available. If you didnt make it to the reunion and lunch in November, pick up a copy in the office and make your travel plans for next year. Jean has done an outstanding job planning and selecting the trips the Center will sponsor. The trip information will also be on our website as soon as Winston has time to do it. |

| RECYCLING SUCCESS STORY | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| At a recent meeting of the Lawrence County Council of Community Clubs, County Executive Ametra Bailey reported on the recycling efforts which are bringing in income and reducing the costs of the solid waste system. This has already allowed a reduction in the solid waste fee we pay. Mrs. Bailey has worked with the schools to get the children involved. The schools benefit financially for their efforts, and they are doing a super job. You can help the school(s) of your choice in their recycling program. Heres how: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (1) (2) (3) |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
| get some of the yellow recycle bags, here at the senior center, at the courthouse or at the solid waste facility; place your recyclable waste in the bags - clean dry paper, including newspapers, cardboard, plastic, and metal cans (aluminum or regular metal cans) - it can all go in the same bag - just keep it dry - no food, liquids or wet garbage. take the material either to the schools recycle building or directly to the solid waste facility. (If you take it to the solid waste facility, you will need to have personnel there weigh the bags and record which school you wish to get credit. Also, if you sell scrap metal or aluminum cans directly, you can turn in the ticket showing the weight at the County Executives office or here at the senior center, and request that the school of your choice get credit for that poundage.) |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Recycling Ball is rolling, but we can still do more. The more we recycle - the more we benefit. There are no losers in this program - everyone wins. Just think - if everyone gets behind this 100%, the solid waste fee can be further reduced or possibly even eliminated completely. Also remember the unseen winners are future generations of our children and grandchildren who will have a cleaner environment in which to live. WOULD IT HELP IF YOU COULD BRING YOUR RECYCLE STUFF TO THE SENIOR CENTER AND LET US TAKE IT ON TO THE SOLID WASTE FACILITY? IF SO, WE CAN DO THAT! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
