Rather than dwell on the things we cant do, lets think about and be thankful for the things we can still do.  We may not be able to hold down a demanding full-time job, but we can still fill our days with something meaningful.  The basic needs of  humans are food, clothing, and shelter.   The basic needs of the mental/emotional/spiritual human are to love, to be loved, and to have a sense of self-worth which comes from being useful and helpful to others.  There are ways to continue to fulfill these needs virtually as long as we live.  One of the visions Mr. Smotherman and I discussed has to do with the concept of usefulness.

I will be meeting more with Mr. Smotherman and others to come up with ways  to develop an organizational vision incorporating ideas from across the membership and the community at large, and then to find the ways and means to bring that vision to fruition.  I think by the time I prepare the August newsletter, we will have some proposals on beginning this process in a way that will involve as many members as possible.   I hope each of you will give some thought to the future of our Center and what you would like to see happening, and then be ready to bring those ideas to the table for discussion.

Now, please fill out the enclosed survey.  Feel free to add any comments you would like to make.

SATURDAY, JULY 15: Our Annual Endowment Donors Appreciation this year will be an extra special treat.  The Summit has graciously offered to sponsor this event, providing both the meeting place and the meal.   We have made arrangements for Donna Jervis, from the Nashville area, to share some Pearls of Wisdom with her Minnie Pearl comedy routine.  Ms. Jervis performs at various places, free of charge, usually bringing some musical entertainment to vary the shows repertoire.  Her favorite audiences are nursing homes and retirement centers.  Those who have made endowment fund donations from July 1, 2005, through June 30, 2006, will receive an invitation.  (IF YOU HAVE MADE A DONATION AND DO NOT GET AN INVITATION, PLEASE CALL THE CENTER SO WE CAN MAKE SURE EVERYONE WHO IS ELIGIBLE IS NOTIFIED.)

SPACE AVAILABLE ON LOWER LEVEL OF THE SENIOR CENTER FOR QUILTING

Since the Election Commission has moved from the space on the lower level of the Senior Center, we have this area available for senior use.  Some ladies inquired about setting up this area to do quilting where it is convenient to the Nutrition dining area, so we are setting up that area for those who would like to quilt.  We frequently get donations of fabrics and sewing items which will be made available to anyone who wants to make quilts or other sewing projects.
