| Someone (in the sports field, I believe) once said: You win some, lose some, and some get rained out. That has been the case with us recently. We had to cancel the junior high girls softball tournament we had planned for April 21-22 due to the weather. The rain for a couple of days prior had the ball fields too wet to use. School tournament play began soon after that, so we could not reschedule at this time, but may try to do this again in the future, and hope for better weather. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Our Home Spun Fun event on April 28 was a mixture of success and failure. We had some outstanding entertainment, some good food including homemade desserts, and a lot of very nice items for the auction, so in that regard I was very pleased. The Sew Bees group and other individuals had made some high quality handcrafted items. A number of seniors made desserts and treats and/or donated items for the sale. A new volunteer, Jeannette Mathis, went above and beyond in collecting donated items from businesses around the county. Employees Linda Purcell and Georgia Whitehead decorated the auditorium at the City Administration Building, and arranged the items for sale in a very nice arrangement. We had volunteers to work the concessions and greet people at the door. But then, only a handful of the members showed up for the most important part of the effort. Several candidates running for office attended and helped with the sale and purchased items. The only thing missing from this F ND-RAISER was U. In spite of the low turnout of members, we took in approximately $1,500 after expenses. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Several Lawrence County seniors participated in the South Central District Senior Olympics the last week of April and won a number of medals. The final tabulation of winners has not been completed yet, but we will get those published when they are available. Some are planning to advance to the State Senior Olympics which will be held in Franklin/Williamson County in July. Winners in the State competition will be eligible to play in the National Senior Olympics next year in Kentucky. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
