| Our Valentines Day Party was a big success, with thirty-something seniors enjoying the refreshments, games, and fellowship with friends. The winners in the King and Queen contest were Helen Purcell and Lamar Conner, the mother-in-law and brother-in-law of Center employee Linda Purcell. Linda worked hard getting donations for them, and turned in over $500. The first runner-up was Marjorie Shaffer, and in third place was Geneva Shaw and Wallace Arnold, who were nominated by the Water Aerobics Class. Thanks to these individuals and all those who voted for them with donations, the Center benefited in the amount of $910.18. Mrs. Purcell and Mr. Conner each received a very nice prize package of items donated by the Senior Center, other individuals, and local businesses. Everyone seemed to enjoy the days activities. In addition to providing refreshments for our Valentines Day Party, Patti Shedd, Administrator of The Summit, presented a donation of $1,000 to the Senior Center. Patti and Cromer Smotherman, resident at the Summit, and another staff person were present during the morning for the activities. They invited those seniors present at the party to have lunch at The Summit at a later date. They will be helping the Center with other projects in the future. and Mr. Smotherman is interested in working toward developing additional business and community support for the Center. This kind of interest and support are very much appreciated. |

| In spite of having some cold weather and snow/icy conditions the weekend before Presidents Day, we still had several eat lunch with us on Presidents Day. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A group of Board Members and your director recently spent a day touring some senior center facilities in Nashville, Brentwood, Tullahoma and Fayetteville to see what others have done and get ideas for what we would like to have if/when the county decides to relocate the senior center. Board Chairman James Smith and his wife Linda, and Board Members Hazel Violet, Loretta Washburn, and Peggy Littrell made the trip, and they and/or others will look at other senior centers to come up with ideas for a plan that would serve the needs of the people of Lawrence County. There has been some discussion and consideration of including a new senior center with the recreational multiplex project being studied by the Chamber of Commerce and City Commission, if details could be worked out between the County and City of Lawrenceburg leaders. That would be a good arrangement, if that project comes to fruition. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Membership dues and donations to the Endowment Fund are coming in since the March newsletter went out with the dues coupon on the back page. I received a call recently from an over-80 member concerning the dues and the Endowment Fund, so an explanation may be in order for the benefit of all members. The membership dues are $10 per person per year, and the membership period coincides with our fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. We start accepting dues early to spread out the workload of updating membership records and to allow members to take care of this at their convenience. Members no longer have to pay dues after they reach age 80, but many of our over-80 members continue to pay the annual fee, and in this case we receipt that money as a donation to the Endowment Fund rather than membership dues. Others make a donation to the Endowment Fund in addition to paying their dues. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
