| As we begin a new year, we will be making efforts to offer more opportunities for members to take part in group activities that appeal to you. In turn, we ask for your support and your input to help us plan these activities. To that end, we want to establish a Planning Committee of members which will meet once a month to advise the Director and Activities Coordinator concerning the things that are of interest to the membership. The first Planning Committee meeting will be Monday, January 8, at 9:00 a.m. The Bingo Breakfast is that same day from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., so we will provide breakfast at no charge to those who will commit to serving on the Planning Committee on a continuing basis. Please register for breakfast and let us know if you will serve on the Planning Committee. (You can come to the Planning Committee meeting even if you don't want to come early enough for breakfast, but please register if you do want breakfast-we need to know how much food to prepare.) LOST & FOUND ITEMS: There are 3 or 4 jackets that have been left at the center. If you're missing one you may pick it up, otherwise we will donate them to a clothing bank. RECYCLING EFFORTS: Seniors have brought in almost a ton of recycle material which we have turned in, giving credit to schools. You may pick up yellow recycle bags and bring recycle material to the Center and we will take it to the recieving station. Reminder : Only include clean, dry paper, cardboard, plastics and cans-glass is not accepted for recycle and should not be put in with recycle material. BRIDGE PLAYERS WANTED: The groups that plays Bridge each Monday at 12:00 noon invite others to join them. It's more fun with 3 or 4 or more tables playing. DOMINOES, ROOK, & OTHER GAMES: There are some playing Rook and /or Dominoes on Thursday beginning around 9:30 and playing on into the afternoon. Beginning in January, we will prepare a crock-pot of soup or stew for lunch, and those who would like to take part in these games may bring an item to put in the soup/stew, crackers, a dessert, or some other item for lunch for the group. Let's build Thursdays into a game marathon day. NOTE: We have scheduled some January activities to be held at the Summit. Our purpose in doing this is two-fold: (1) it will give Senior Center members an opportunity to meet and make friends with those seniors at the Summit who are less able to get out and go somewhere to take part in social activities; and (2) it will give Senior Center members an opportunity to have enough others to play games such as Rook, Checkers, etc., with several other people. We believe that this approach will benifit everyone, so we encourage our members who are able to get out and go places to help us promote these activities that will be mutually beneficial. This is a concept that we may be able to expand on with other groups; for example, we might have days that we visit the Loretto or St. Joseph seniors for such activities. |

| WANTED: PULL TABS FROM ALUMINUM CANS. When you open aluminum cans, break off the pull tabs and save them till you come to the Center and put them in our jar. A gallon of these pull tabs "pays" for a cancer treatment for someone at Vanderbilt Hospital. This is an opportunity to do something good for someone else that will not cost you anything but a moment to break off the tabs and the time to drop them off at the Center. We have almost a third of a gallon now--let's see if we can fill it up by the end of January. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| HOW MANY OF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO DONATE BLOOD? IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE, DO YOU DONATE? Something most of us don't think of often is the necessity of blood for people who have surgeries or have other conditions that require blood transfusions to survive. Most of the time the blood supplies on hand will cover the need for only a short time, so it is vital for hospitals to have a steady supply of blood to meet the needs of their patients. Generally, healthy individuals age 17 and over who weigh more than 110 pounds are eligible. There are some health conditions and some medications that preclude donation. The Red Cross has a donor eligibility line where you can find out if you are eligible to donate. Call the Red Cross at 1-800-253-0957, Extension 7822 (or 615-346-7822) to find out if you are eligible to donate, then, if you are, consider donating blood the next time they visit Lawrenceburg. |
