Synopsis: While retrieving a crashed probe, Data loses his memory and lives amonsgt a village of primitive people who start to get sick soon after his arrivle.
Over All:
An orginal and very creative episode.
Pros:
- How fascinating it is to see Data mix with a group of primitive
aliens as if he was one of them. Sure we've seen the crew disguise themselves as primitive aliens before, but it was much more interesting here because Data does not know who he is so he assumes that he is one of them.
- It's a bit of a classic story, of the stranger who is feared because he is different, yet all he wants to do is help others, yet it is really interesting here.
- The relationship between Data and Gia is very well done, it's interesting and it's touching,. It was much better than any other relationship they tried to do with Data and a child, as in "Hero Worship" or "Star Trek: Insurrection"
Cons:
- Data loses his memory, but he remembers how to speak, how to
caculate complex caculations, and he knows more about science than anyone else on the entire planet. So it would appear that he only lost his memory of who he was, so why doesn't he know what radioactive means. He remembered how to read the word, and he remembered what every other word meant, so he should have known what radioactie meant. And even if he didn't with Data complex reasoning skills, he should have been able to figure out the metal fragments were harmful alot sooner.
- I don't like the fact, that at the end of the episode Data doesn't remember anything that happened on the planet, it kind of takes away from the whole episode.
