Star Trek Episode Countdown
Synopsis: The crew travle to the front lines of the war and plan to help a few starfleet marines fight a hopeless battle against the Jem'hadar on a planet called AR-558.
Over All:
A good look at the Dominion War, making it seem alot more
real. An exciting and touching tale.
Pros:
- This episode is very good at showing the true horrors of war.
And how it could turn even the advanced and evolved Starfleet officers into bloodthirsty killers desperate to survive.
- It was interesting to see the war tactics of the 24th century, up until this episode they've only shown the Dominion War as space battles. Here we see the land tactics such as the Houdinis, the cloaked undected mines. And how the Dominion sent a holographic army of Jem'hadar to test Starfleet's position.
Cons:
- I think it was a bit silly to have Ezri be the one who helped out on
the engineering side of the mission. She is the Councelor, you think her councelor skills would be needed seeing how those starfleet marines were all about to go insane. If they wanted one of the main characters helping on the engineering side, they should have brought Chief O'Brien.
- Did anyone else notice the shocking similaritys between the fight scence at the end of this episode to the fight scence at the end of the movie "Saving Private Ryan". Of course this fight scence was alot shorter and less bloody but it was definety modeled exactly off of "Saving Private Ryan". Inthat movie they were protecting a bridge, here it's a communications array. And especially how Bashir plays Vic Vontaines music right before the battle, just like in "Saving Private Ryan" how they were listening to opera right before the battle.
