Notable Quotes: Odo: "I've had my eye on you for a long time Rom, you're not as stupid as you look."  Rom: "I am too!"
Synopsis: A murder attempt on Qaurk re-opens a murder investigation Odo opened when he first came aboard the station.
Over All:
A very interesting and well done episode. The first episode to
go into detail about what the station was like during the Cardassain Ocupation.
Pros:
- The outlook on Odo's character and his beginings on the station
are excellently done in this episode. In Odo's security log we hear have events happen from his perspective, to give us a better view on how the shape shifter security chief persecives things. And the flashbacks to his beginings on the station during the Cardassain ocupation explains alot about how he came to be chief of security and what the station was like during the ocupation. We also get to see when Odo first meets Qaurk and Kira.
- This episode is the best to explore Odo's investigating abilities. For example his skills to be able to tell that Kira was lying by looking at her face and that Pallra Vatrick didn't cry over her husband's death just by looking at her face. He doesn't really show the same skills for spotting lairs in later episodes.
- This episode was a great mixture of flash backs to the ocupation and the investigation in the "present". It all served one plot.
Cons:
- A direct quote from Odo, "Selling out their own world for a profit,
Collabrotors. Not even a Ferengi would do that." That statements seems outright ridiculous to me. Of course a ferengi would do that.
- Odo seems to be a bit negigent in one manner though, not realizing that the murdered man was a collaborator. In an episode that appeared later that season, "The Collaborator" I get the impression that Odo knew exactly who the Bajoran collaborator were, and even if the Cardassains were trying to conceal the fact this man was a collaborator, you'd think a man with Odo's dictieive skills would be able to figure it out within eight years.
