Notable Quotes: "She will be gone! Please don't make me use some foolish youthenism." Mirror Garek
Synopsis: While returning to the station from the Gamma Qaudrant, Kira and Bashir find themselves in a parelle universe where the Klingon, Cardassains and Bajorans have an allaince and have enslaved humans.
Over All:
An outstanding episode. The first and best Deep Space Nine
episode concerning the Mirror Universe.
Pros:
- It was so fasinating to see this parelle universe for the first time
and this was best look and most exciting plot of any of the DS9 mirror universe episodes. O'Brien's line at the end of the episode that, he was wondering how everyone would have turned out if history had been a little different, and that's what this episode of all about. Odo is a relentless slave driver, O'Brien is a cowardly mechanic, Kira is a ruthless dictator, Sisko is a moralless pirate, and Qaurk is an honorable man that helps slaves escape. A fasinating side of our favorite characters.
- What made this one of the best parelle universe episodes is this is the only time where we see one of the main character come face to face with their mirror universe conterpart. The scence with Kira and the Intendant were outstanding, and Nana Vistor did a great acting job having a conversation with herself.
- Speaking of great acting Avery Brooks has never been very good as Sisko, at times I thought his acting was quite horrible. But he is outstanding at playing crazy versions of Sisko. His potrayle of the Mirror Sisko brought great depth to this episode.
- This episode had so many memorable lines, it was had to choose just one for the notable qoutes. Every character in this episode was alive and viabrent. And another thing that disginish this episode from the other mirror universe episode, that every once in a while the mirror unvierse characters would say thing that reminded you of their conter parts in "our" universe. Such as the Mirror Garek's line to Kira when he says "I do admire a well taylored gown."
Cons:
- Although it was a neccesary scene of having the Intendant
give Kira a history lesson of the mirror universe, so that we could learn that Kira and Bashir were in the same parelle universe that Kirk visted in TOS' "Mirror, Mirror" and what happend in that universe sence that episode, it's pretty hard to believe that the Allaince would keep such detailed records of what happend in the Terrain Empire.
- At the end of the episode when Sisko asks Kira where they've been she repiles "through the looking glass" which of course is a direct refence to the
human story "Alice in Wonderland". Where at the begining of the episode Kira tells Bashir that her knowledge of music is limted to Bajoran compossors. If she only familar with Bajoran music, it's a bit hard to believe she would be so familar with human literture that she would make such a specfic refence.
