Synopsis: Three Starfleet Captains contact Picard secretly to warn him about a grave threat to star fleet, a possible alien infiltration. Picard doesn't take their threats seriosly at first, until one of the Captains, his closet friend Walker Keel is killed in an accident, or at least it was meant to look like an accident
Over All:
A very unique episode. Quite excellent, for the first season.
Pros:
- A good follow up to "Coming of Age", where the real Admiral
Quinn mentioned this possible conspiracy.
- One of the more darker episodes of The Next Generation, espeically for the first season, not to mention one of the grossest. That scene at the end when they showed the "mother" creature swimming around in Rimmik's insides, after his head was blown off.
- Aliens that take over the good guys bodies to do "evil" things is hardly orginal, but the way its done here is exceptional. This episode is more about the conspiracy surrounding the take over. How the few officers that were not taken over begin to suspect something's going on.
Cons:
- These aliens were able to go months or possible longer, posing as
Starfleet's top brass, without being detected. It seems strange to me that the alien posing as Admiral Quinn would so blatantly blow his cover by attacking LaForge and Worf. It seems it would have been more beneficail to go on posing as Quinn, and actually infected Riker with the other alien as he planned.
- The scene where Quinn, after beating the crap out of Riker and Geordi, turns to Worf and says, "Now Klingon, it's just you and me." Was rediculously cheesy.
- They take this Data babbling thing a bit too far when the computer tells Data to shut up (in so many words).
