Synopsis: An alien entity enters Councelor Troi's body, and she gives birth to him as a half human, half Betazoid male.
Over All:
An interesting concept, but a boring episode.
Pros:
- This was the first episode of the second season, we see some
changes in the series, Riker gets a beard, Doctor Crusher's gone, instead we have Doctor Plaski, LaForge and Worf got promotions, LaForge is the chief Engineer instead of the navigator, and we are introduced to the lounge ten forward and its bartender Guinan. It was a good descion to make Geordi the engineering chief, during the first season the show's lack of a chief engineer showed, and it seemed ridiculous how they showed a different chief engineer every week. Plus Geordi was kind of useless as a navigator, Wesly fit that role alot better. Also Worf becomes chief of security instead of standing in the background doing nothing. Despite all of these important changes this season turned out to be just as crappy as the first season.
- The plot with viruses threaten the Enterprise was interesting and suspensful.
Cons:
- The concept of having an alien enter Troi's body and entering
the world as child was somewhat interesting, however they didn't do much with it. It turned out to be quite boring, the scene at the end where Troi's son Ian died, was suppose to be sad or tragic, but I find it uninteresting, they didn't give enough background on the alien.
- They had to have the plot with Wesly deciding to stay on the ship despite the fact that his mother was gone in order to justify Wesly being on the show without Dr. Crusher there. It was a necessary step but made this episode all the more boring.
