Synopsis: The crew encounters a thousand year old ship. While exploring it the Enterprise get trapped in the same booby trap that killed the ancient ship's crew.
Over All:
An average episode that's some what interesting, but nothing
spectacular.
Pros:
- This episode explores LaForge's character quite well. Here we
learn that he is no good in dealing with women, but very good in dealing with computers. Something most Trek fans can probably idenitify with.
- The plot with Enterprise getting stuck in a thousand year old booby trap was somewhat entertaining.
Cons:
- It was a bit ridiculous how LaForge went about solving their
problem, by working in the holodeck with a holographic recreation of one of the designers of the Enterprise, instead of working with his engineering crew to try to solve the problem. It would be like Picard going into the holodeck working with holographic chacters to try to solve ship wide problems, instead of holding senior staff meetings. I mean what's the point of having a crew if you don't use them.
- This episode is a classic example of "The Captain must reap all the glory syndrom", when at the end Picard navigates the Enterprise out of the debris field. When LaForge would be a much more likely canidate, since he designed the program worked with the computer on this particalur scenerio, and considering that LaForge used to be the ships navigater just two years earlier. In the episode "11001001" Picard mentions that it's been a while since he used the helm, which would make sence since he's been a Captain for over ten years. Therefore the decion to have Picard navigate the Enterprise out of danger was done simply so the Captain would save the day, it which is just plain stupid.
