...As for the "Well, we're in it, so get over it" argument - I don't think anyone has to get over it, per se. However, we are in it and we're fairly committed now to seeing it through. If we leave early because people are getting squeamish about a 1.38% death rate for our military (based on our current deployment of about 153,000 [http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/iraq_orbat.htm] and U.S. military deaths of 2123 (includes the ten Marines just killed by a bomb in Fallujah today - my condolences to their families)), we'll just be continuing the cycle of instability in the region.
