5/22/01 - Yankees Select FSU Outfielder Griffin with their First Pick

With the 23rd pick in the first round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, The New York Yankees
select......John-Ford Griffin, outfielder from Florida State University.  Griffin may not
be a household name right now, but the Yankees are hoping that in 3-4 years he'll be
playing alongside Bernie Williams in the outfield.  Right now, Griffin is finishing his
career at Florida State and then he will probably be playing for Our Yanks this season.

    How This Poll Works:

Once the season starts, 6 new players will be featuered every Wednesday - 2 from the Inaugural Season, 2 from the 2000 Season, and 2 from the present season.  The poll will last for one week and you will have the chance to vote for your favorite player.  Towards the end of the season, all the past winners will be put in the same poll where you will have the chance to pick your All-time Favorite Staten Island Yankee!

5/22/01- Yankees Sign Henn

Sean Henn, a leftt-handed pitcher from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas agreed to a $1,701,000 signing bonus with the New York Yankees.  Henn would have been eligible for this year's draft, where he likely would have been picked in the top half of the first round, if the Yankees had not signed him.  Henn was originally drafted in 1999 by the Yankees in the 30th round out of Aledo (TX) High School.  He was drafted again last year by the Yanks, but this time in the 26th round.  Henn posted a 1.97 ERA this year at McLennan and he features a fastball that tops out at 99 MPH.  He is probably a few years away from the majors and will likely start his pro career here in Staten Island.
