Hunting
Dallas County and the five counties which adjoin it (Wilcox, Lowndes, Autauga, Perry and Marengo) are known throughout the U.S. as the "White-tail Capital of the Nation." This area has more white-tailed deer per acre than any other region of Alabama. And Alabama has more deer per acre than any state in the union.
This region also has its fair share of turkey, as well as almost every species of small game one could imagine. This area has received a great deal of publicity over the past five years in publications ranging from Peterson's Hunting to Alabama Game and Fish. This publicity has resulted in an increase in the number of acres of hunting land under lease by private hunting clubs and a decrease in the availability of public hunting lands. All land in Alabama is posted by law. Written permits must be obtained from landowners before hunting.
There are many commercial hunting organizations in this area which offer the hunter an excellent opportunity to harvest a prime buck or gobbler. These pay-by-the-day lodges offer a variety of facilities and a wide diversity of hunting conditions and habitats.
