interview with alex of in dark purity webzine .

1. Please give us the history of Inhuman Dissiliency.

hey bro, first of all thanks for the interview. you fucking rule! as for inhuman dissiliencys history, the band basically started in the summer of 2002. this is after years of trying different bands with all sorts of different influences. the band we were working with before I D, "perpetual dismemberment", had been going through a good bit of struggle getting people to practice, keeping people dedicated to writing and all that shit. so todd and i decided to move on. i had bought a drum machine hoping that we wouldn't need to keep it long. just a way of getting started, cause we had the whole idea figured out on how we wanted to sound, it was just getting it done that was the problem. but with the drum machine, it made it possible to finally get the material completed. we quickly completed all the songs we were working with and moved on to getting a set completed to get out and play live as soon as possible. when we finally got that done, we started the never ending struggle of being a live band with a drum machine. haha... still to this day, we are searching for a drummer to fill the line up. hopefully soon we will be able to get that position filled.

2. What are your musical and non-musical influences?

well, i fucking love music. for that matter, all forms of art. so to be a part of something creative is a blessing to me. people in general are influences as well. we basically started writing this shit in part, just to spread brutal death to the people we live around. for the most part, people here have never heard of this stuff. so we started in part just to get the music to them. cause we all know that there is some sick ass shit out there that needs to be spread!!! as for other bands that influence me, personally, i'd say the first one to come to mind would be devourment. love the fucking breakdowns! some other bands are, suffocation, early napalm death, vomit remnants, guttural secrete, disconformity and the list goes on and on... there is not much death metal out there that doesn't influence me in some way or another.

3. The vocals on "Dismembered And Decapitated" demo are fucking brutal! Are they enhanced in any way?

hey man, first of all on behalf of brian, thanks for the sick comments on the vocals. and as for any enhancements, no. there is no sort of vocal enhancements on anything we have ever done. we wanted everything to be natural. it comes across so much more brutal that way. at least to us. we have no problems with vocal enhancements or anything. there is lots of shit out there that sounds great with it. but its just one of those things that didn't agree with what we wanted to get accomplised in our sound. so we stayed away from them and will continue to do so.

4. For a drum machine, everything sounds natural, well programmed, and the patterns are humanly possible. If you know what I mean.

thanks bro. i do them tracks myself. i know nothing about drumming, so to hear someone compliment them is fucking sick!! thanks bro!! yeah, the whole idea was to only get the drum machine to get us started. we felt that if we had to use this thing, the drums needed to sound real, so todd and i sat for hours making the sounds of the drums as close to what we wanted as the drum machine would allow us to do. cause we figured, if we got to use this piece of shit, why not have them sound good?? haha... then we'd asked ourselves, why make them sound faster then humanly possible? what would happen if we found a drummer?? motherfucker wouldn't be able to play the tracks right. so we decided to first figure out how fast a basic drummer could play, and never make anything we did with the machine untouchable. it makes the music sound abit more real. and as i said early, we want to get a drummer instead of using the machine. and we want to make sure that its not impossible to play for them.

5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a drum machine?

well, the biggiest advantage to using it, other then the drummer never being late, always coming to practice, never showing up drunk and not being able to remember shit, and the bitching....haha.., would probably have to be the decrease in studio time. its so much faster for drum takes. first take is always the good take. now the drum machine comes with all sort of disadvantages. at least for us. one, someone has to still write the damn tracks. meaning, its not just, "hey i got a riff. put some drum tracks to this." you have to write the damn riff, lay down some drums, write the riff some more...etc. pain in the ass. two, humans can make a decision on the spot. machines need to be programmed then heard then make decisions. and the machine itself won't say that sucks. so you got to run over it and over it.... very time consuming. three, playing live. people tend to look up and see that there is no drummer and all of a sudden, "this band sucks". no giving it a try or anything. the band sucks. period. i mean, how the fuck can a band sound good without a fucking drummer!? right?? haha...

6. I know the sample on "Necro-Cannibalistic Infest" is taken from "The Evil Dead" but I can't remember where the sample on "Devouring Aborted Feces" is taken from. Napalm Death used it too on "Contemptuous." Are these songs inspired by those films? What's the sickest film that you have ever seen?

the sample on "devouring aborted feces" is from "full metal jacket". and no, the songs are not inspired by the movies. the samples, when taken from what the are directly saying, just fit the subject matter of the song. alot of the time the songs are wrote before the sample is added. and as far as the sickest film i have ever seen....i'm not really sure about that. i'm yet to see a film that really defines "sick film". i find most gore films to be funny over being sick. although they have their moments.. haha!

7. I understand that you are working on an EP. Tell us more about it.

yeah. the ep will probably end up being more of a full lenght then an ep. it will have 8 traccks total. 3 tracks from the demo re-recorded with the new vocalist, in which if anyone is interested in hearing his vocals, there is a rough recording of the track, "vomiting decayed fecal matter" on our website, and the rest of the cd will be 5 newer tracks. we had recorded this cd at one point, but it sounded so bad, that we decided to scrap it and do it over. didn't want to put a cd out with that kind of sound on it. the brutal death metal fans have been real good to us, thanks by the way, and we didn't believe that giving them a cd that sounded that bad would be very fair. they deserve more then that. so we will be re-recording it to try to get a better one done this time. we have run into many problems since that first recording was done, but they all seem to be working out now. so we should be getting that shit out soon. it will be entitled, "immersed in carnal decay". and if you liked the songs on the demo, you will not be disappointed. check for updates on our website for info about that cd as we recieve it.

8. How do you go about writing?

i mainly write guitar at my house. away from the band. everyone seems to be pretty busy all the time. so i just kind of do it on my own. i'm i guess what you can call the loser of the band. haha... don't really have a life. so i write music. then i lay down some drum tracks. after this, i finally get to show them to the band. thats when the lyrics are layed in and all the final touches. all in all, the song gets done, but pretty slowly. due to i work alot.

9. In what area do you think the band has improved as far as the song writing is concerned?

we are starting to write more together now. instead of me writing it all at home. this, to me, makes the writing process a little more creative. its now not just me sitting around with only my ideas. its all sorts of ideas packed into one. all in all, the one thing i have always liked about our band is that we all want the same thing. and although the ideas weren't flying out in the begining, i knew sooner or later they would surface. and once they all do, be prepared to total fucking brutality!!!

10. How does the material on the EP compare to the "Dismembered And Decapitated" demo?

you know, most of the songs that will be on the ep, were wrote before some of the ones on the demo cd. necro-cannibalistic infest was our first song, but the other two on the demo were layed out to kind of give everyone the whole idea of our band. the second song, mutilation of self-extracted entrails, was wrote about in the middle of our writing and the last song, devouring aborted feces, was one of the last songs wrote before the demo was made. just to give a taste of what the ep will bring. it wasn't planned to take so damn long to get the ep done. but as time would have it, problems surfaced. and these problems pushed the recording back a good bit.

11. What are the things that you have learned from the previous recording that you are able to apply on the EP?

well for one, i personally had a hell of a time with vocals on the first recording. i only do some backing vocals, but since that recording, i have been working on them. so being able to see that the first time in the studio really helped me pinpoint exactly what i needed to work on. and as a band, the first time we went into the studio, there wasn't a whole lot of communication going on. it was more like, lets get this shit done. so there will definitely be more of that this time.

12. What is the most challenging part of recording?

getting the sound you are looking for. i myself go into the studio with a sound in mind of how i'd like the final to sound. it doesn't come that easily. haha. its a struggle to make the engineer understand what it is you are looking for in your sound. seeing to how he's not part of the band, he really doesn't know what it is you are looking for. so to me, i'd say that would be the biggiest bitch of all. after that you of course have the shitty stuff. you know, patience, understanding of others patience, shitty attitudes, containing yourself from beating the hell out of band members, you know the works...haha.. all in a days work at the studio.

13. What's an Inhuman Dissiliency live set like? Any mishaps with the drum machine live?

man, we have had a good share of problems with the drums. not being load enough, cutting out on a song, not turning on for some reason or other. most of this happens only at practice. but it still sucks! all in all, the drum machine sucks!!!! period! to many fucking worries. human don't just cut out and shit. and if i make a mistake, it really shows. and that pisses me off. i hate to let all the people and my band members down. but all in all, this doesn't really happen often. the set normally goes really well. the crowd, those who can get over it being a drum machine band at least, seem to be really cool with us. so in the end, shows end up being really sick. haven't really had anyone say anything bad to me. we normally get a few new fans everytime we play. so we must be doing something right. haha..

14. What's the sickest thing you have done in the name of Inhuman Dissiliency?

bro, i don't ever get to do shit!!! haha... always fucking writing new songs, doing new website designs, promoting our shit to helpless victims... i really don't get alot of time to do shit. some day though. i'll have to get back to you on this one.

15. Horns up! (Anything else you may want to add... )

hey bro, huge thanks for the interview. good fucking luck with all you do in the future. keep this sick ass zine alive!!! and thanks to all who live, breathe, devour, excrete, and re-ingurgitate death metal music. if it wasn't for all of you, we wouldn't be doing this. so from all in inhuman dissiliency, we'd like to says thanks for all of you! your support is not being over looked. even if you hate what we are doing, we love you!! haha... and for anyone who hasn't heard of us and are interested in checking our shit out, we have a website full of inhuman information at: www.inhumandissiliency.com so stop by and sign the fucking guestbook. keep it sick! take care.
