interview with martin of incinerated webzine.

Martin: Hey Shawn, thank you so much for this interview. How are things going with you and the band?

Shawn: Hello Martin!! Thank you for the interview bro!! I am much honored to be doing this with you. And things are going real good right now. Thanks for asking. The band just got done playing a show last night with Embalmer, Mutilated, Solidification and Corpulate, which fucking killed!! Everything at the moment is going real good for the band.

Martin: Can you tell us how Inhuman Dissiliency started?

Shawn: Inhuman Dissiliency got started when a band Todd and I were in started to fall apart. The bands name was Perpetual Dismemberment. PD was having a good bit of trouble getting things going. As far as getting band members to practice and getting songs done to get out and play some shows. So Todd and I decided to start a small side project to fill in the lost time. This project was Inhuman Dissiliency. Its wasn't long after starting this project that PD pretty much fell apart all together. Giving us all the time we needed to just get ID going instead. ID started in the summer of 2002. We had already had a good bit of material ready to go before we actually got the band in full swing. So getting the band going was no problem at all for us. We both loved what we were coming up with and worked our asses off to get the shit done and ready to play out a quick as we could. We were originally looking for a drummer, but since we had a problem finding one, we dicided to go with a drum machine to get started. In hopes that a real drummer would be found before playing live. This at least got us a way of getting things going. So we went with it. Shortly after completing about 2 or 3 songs, Brian(who was also in PD with us) was brang in to do main vocals. In roughly about 3 months we had all the material we needed to play out and started to do so. We later recorded a demo cd, "Dismembered and Decapitated" that has been and still is getting a great response from the underground world wide. Thanks to everyone that has given it a listen! We really appreciate it!

Martin: I want to say thanks for sending me your guys demos and shirts, I owe you! You guys use a drum machine for the recording of "Obscured In Putrescence" and "Dismembered And Decapitated", for live shows, do you use a drum machine as well or a real drummer?

Shawn: Thank you for supportin bro!! And yes, we used the drum machine for the demos. We also use it to play live. Its not what we want to be doing, but until a real drummer is found that will fit the spot the way we need them to, we will continue to use the drum machine. Even in live performances. It sort of became part of the band after so long. At first it was hard to get used to because we really didn't want to be using it. But after some time, you tend to really appreciate it. Its sometimes hard when playing live though, because there are still lots of people that are not very openminded about the use of them. So they tend to give you the cold shoulder and walk off before giving it a chance. This is of course to be expected. But it gets frustrating at times. We still are looking for a real drummer because we all still would rather have one then us this drum machine. We just refuse to stop writing music because we are out a drummer, thats all.

Martin: What kind of drum machine do you use?

Shawn: We use a Boss dr-670(Dr. Rhythm) drum machine. It has been the same drum machine we have used since the beginning. It is very easy to use and it allows you to change pitches for each individual drum. This was a must for us because we wanted to keep the sound of natural drums, or at least as close as we possible could get them to sounding like actual drums. Its a great piece of equipment.

Martin: I belive that you guys are recording for a split cd with Vomitous, correct? How is that going on, and did you guys still use a drum machine for the recording?

Shawn: Yes, we are doing a split with Vomitous(www.myspace.com/vomitous) from Sweden. It will be released on Sevared Records. Its coming along pretty good. Hopefully the mastering will be done soon and it will be pressed for release. But i'm not completely sure when all this will happen at the moment. We did indeed use the drum machine for this recording. We do not have the drummer thats right for our band at the moment. So we will continue to use the drum machine for recording and live performances until one is found to fit the spot. Which we all hope is real soon.

Martin: What are you guys main influences?

Shawn: I'd say our main influences are, Devourment, Suffocation, Early Cannibal Corpse, Early Napalm Death, Saprogenic and the likes. Recently we have had a great deal of influences stemming from more recent bands such as Guttural Secrete, Disconformity and Digested Flesh. Along with many others. Theres not a whole lot of shit that doesn't influence us to write something. We basically just want to create the sickest music we can and hope to continue doing so for some time to come. So as times change and the days go by, more influences kind of just pop up from time to time.

Martin: In your own words, can you describe us your sounds?

Shawn: Death Metal!! haha We are mostly put i the catagory of death grind but to us, its all death metal. We love the breakdowns in music so we use alot of them in our music. But try to put as many fast sections in as we can to break of the monotony. Plus that gives us another reason to break it down again. haha For the most part, most of our songs just simply breakdown as much as we can do so without making them sound monotonous. I hope this answers your question bro. Cause i'm not sure what else to say. haha we've never really sat down and thought this out. We've just always wrote what we felt and enjoyed.

Martin: I know that you guys love to play shows and create sick music for sick people, and you guys dont want to be signed, correct? why is that?

Shawn: We don't want to be signed, thats correct. We just simply started this band to spread death metal in our area here. It was just lacking and it needed to be brang to the fore front. Thats all. We didn't start the band to make it anywhere. To our surprise, people from all over the world began to listen to the liked it. This was completely something we didn't expect to happen. We never looked at ourselves as a good band. And we never wanted to be anything more then a band the wrote music just to help support the underground and hopefully help spread this sick form of music to more people. Especially around here. We don't need label support to do that. So we never really got involved with them. We have nothing wrong with labels or anything. Or with anyone that runs them. Cause for the most part they have all been really good to us. Its just not something we need for our band to keep us going. We just love to write music, period. You don't need a label to tell you that much. Besides, if anyone ever wants anything from our band, all they need to do is get in contact with us([email protected]). Its easy to do. And we will respond to anyone as soon as we can.

Martin: What is your opinion about the underground scene?

Shawn: I love underground death metal!! I grew up on it and will continue to support it in anyway possible. I owe it a good bit for getting me through alot of shit over the years. Without being able to pull out some sick underground albums, and listen to them all the fucking time, i don't know how the fuck i would have got by. I have nothing but love for the underground scene. Its getting stronger everyday, and sicker too! I do hope it just continues to grow and grow and get sicker as time goes on. And in order for this to continue to happen, all we need to do is keep listen to all the shit that people just continue to spew out! The underground death metal scene is fucking sick!!

Martin: Besides the split cd with Vomitous, is their any other releases we can expect?

Shawn: Yes, we have material wrote for a 4 way split with Artery Eruption, Orchidectomy and Cephlic Mortification that will sooner or later be released as well. Besides that we have another sick split in the making at the moment. But as of now, thats not far enough along to start spreading anything just yet. As soon as some information comes up for it, we will be posting it on our offical website at www.inhumandissiliency.com. So stop on by there every once an a while to check for updates on that in the future.

Martin: What really got my attention from you guys is that you have so much merch! Why so much of it?

Shawn: We put out so much merchandise because we wanted to make sure that everyone that wanted anything from us would have a choose. Not everyone is going to like a simply logo shirt. So we decided to just make a few more designs so they wouldn't have to settle for just any one thing. Its more the less just because we know, because we are huge collectors of death metal merchandise ourselves, that people like to have all sort of shit to choose from. Why settle for a simply logo shirt if you don't have to? Now some people loves plain logo shirts, so we have them too! Besides, it didn't cost us much more to make several designs, so we would only be cheating the people if we didn't come up with a few different ones right? Its nothing more then that.

Martin: Last question, what can we expect in the future for Inhuman Dissiliency? Tours, full leghts, etc.

Shawn: Other then the split cds that we have lined up for releases, you can pretty much expect some new merchandise from time to time. And hopefully a mcd or a full length eventually. We are not really a touring band due to ours jobs and shit but we do enjoy to play out live. And whenever we get the chance, we will always do so. We turn down very few shows. And thats normally only happens because they are just too far out of reach for us to pull off. Other then that, we basically don't really know. We still play for the simply reason that we just love to do so. So we really don't have any high expectations to do anything out of the ordinary. We just want to continue doing what we are doing. And thats writing the sickest music we can.

Martin: Thanks alot for this interview Shawn, I wish you the best for you and the band. You may have the last words.

Shawn: Thanks to you bro!! Thanks for supporting our band and for this sick interview! I hope the best for your zine man. And thanks to everyone that has been supporting us over the years. We really appreciate it from each and everyone of you. I do hope you all continue to enjoy our music and continue to come back and check our new shit out from time to time. Hopefully soon the split with Vomitous will be released so that all the people that have been waiting for some new material will finally get some. Sorry for the delay. Things are just really busy at the moment. The wait will be over soon. Take care Martin and everyone else reading this. Keep it sick!
