Hi Shawn, how are you all and how goes the band by the time?
Hey Mikel, first of all thanks for the interview bro! I'm doing fine bro. As for how things are going for the band, i'd say great right now. For the most part things are picking up. We have gone through many ups and downs and right now i'd say we are back on the rise. Thanks for asking bro!
Let us know the origins of the band and what could be the new projects you would like to do in the future.
Well this band actually started out from a project that me and Todd started that never had a name. We both decided to leave that band and start a project geared more towards straight forward brutality. Our next attemp at doing so was with a project called, "Perpetual Dismemberment." This band was alot more in the right direction then the last project we'd started but with all the problems we had with members coming to practice and things just not coming together(due to a lack of practice), we basically decided to do it on our own. This is where Inhuman Dissiliency came along. We are currently still working strogly with this project. And i must say, i see no need to stop. I really think we have finally got it all figured out with this project. Everything is going great and it is fun as fuck to take this band out live!!
Your lyrical and visual concept reminds me a lot the way Deaden use to do... all seems to be very forensic, bloody an dcome from the deepest graves. Why have you chosen this theme?
Deaden huh? haha!! Our lyric writing is very important to us. We have always sought out lyrics that really discribed what we were looking for in a song. We will settle for nothing less! Lyrics are important because they express things about a song that instruments can't do. We can only show a certain amount of brutality through the instruments. And if there is any other way, like with lyric writing to make the brutality that little bit more brutal, then that is what we are going to do to get across what we are trying to get across. So i look at it like, if we were to write anything less then what we are doing now, we'd be settling for something we are not. And that to me is just not right. So we have always and will continue to always write lyrics that best describe the tone of the song. Or we will stop writing all together.
...Or you may change your concept of the band someday or not?
We set out to make this band exactly the way it is. So i can not foresee us ever changing it in any way. Other then making it more brutal that is. haha!! The concepts were completely thought out before ever intruducing them to the public. If we didn't want them to be part of our band, they never would have been brang so far in the first place. So no, i can't see us ever changing them. And if we would ever decide to, we'd change the band name as well.
Define for us your style as well as your influences:
Our style: Self-Mutilating Death!! haha!! I guess the best way for me to describe our style would be by calling it slam/deathgrind. Breakdowns are very important to us. The more the better. And most people label that as slam death metal. I personally call it death metal myself. And as for influences, well this might come as a surprise, but my biggiest influence would have to be Devourment! haha!! From the first time i heard them, i knew i wanted to play like that. That shit floored me. Not to say that it was the only thing that i wanted to sound like.It just hooked me right away. Some other infuences for me would be, Suffocation, Disgorge(CA), Saprogenic, and as our recently, Dripping, Disconformity, Guttural Secrete, Wormed, etc... Hay muchos grupos brutales que me inspiran influencias y estar por todo esto tocando.
You have released two demos; a 2-track promo entitled Obscured in Putrescence and a 3-track demo entitled Dismembered & Decapitated, and took part in a compilation. In all of them the drums were artificial, do you really want a real drummer or you may feel better having that sound like Retch for example?
A real drummer would fucking RULE!! But as we figured from the beginning, one of this is going to be hard to come by here. At least one that is into this kind of music. Emo/punk runs these parts. But we have tried a few out. Just seems to never work out. I personally would love a real drummer. It would make the writing process alot easier. The drum machine wasn't in our original plans for this band. It just came about because we couldn't find a drummer that was working out. So instead of sitting around bitching about not having a drummer and not playing at all, we just decided to buy a drum machine and get shit rolling. So far we still haven't been lucky enough to run into the right person for the job. But we are still looking.
What do you prefer the studio feeling or the live feeling? Where do you feel all more comfortable?
I personally love to play live! So i'd say definitely the live feeling. I get so damn down in the studio. Also thinking that this or that could have turne out better. But playing live, you need not worry about this. Just play and enjoy yourself doing so. Thats why we write in the first place. Just to spread brutal death metal music to people around here. Cause for the most part, people here don't know shit about this genre. And look at all the good shit that is out there. We'd hoped from the beginning that we could bring to them some of this genre in hopes that they would be interested in hearing more. Therefore asking what else they could go get to get more. This is where we spread other bands name off to them. Spreading the scene was really one of our only concerns when starting this band. The scene has given us so much over so many years, so we come to give some back.
Any anecdote from any show....?
Shows!? What the hell is that? haha!! Bro, shows are hard to come by here. That is unless you don't mind playing with some emo/punk/acustic bands. Great spot for death metal right? haha!! I mean have you ever even heard of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania before? haha!! Sure the hell isn't the death metal capital of the world. haha!! We do every once and awhile get to play out live. but for the most part if we want to play with other metal bands, its out of the area for us. And being that we are a drum machine band, its hard as hell to even get noticed by other bands. One of our last shows was with our bros in Digested Flesh from NJ. If you haven't heard this band, you must check them out!! (www.digestedflesh.com) Sick band!! But yeah, as of right now the only shows that i can even see us playing in the future is the dates we are working on with the Mutilated/Solidification tour that is coming through here in September. And they're not even conformed yet. We'll see i guess.
Do you think that nowadays there is a huge overbooking of brutal bands in U.S.A. and Europe? Do you think that this could benefit the new ones to rise and find a proper future? Or this could damage the new bands to make them to fight more and more?
I personally don't think that there is to many brutal bands being booked anywhere. But then again, to me, the more bands i can see just inspires me to want to write more music. We have never wanted to be any better then anyone else so for the most part there can never be to many bands to us. Shit, for the matter, we most definitely don't have enough bookings going on here(in the Harrisburg area). There is damn near none. As far as band benefiting from all the bookings, i could only wish that was happening here. haha!! I can't personally see any way this can hurt the scene.
What is your opinion about big labels and distros and the minimal or more underground ones (comparison)?
We are one of those bands that stay clear of labels as much as possible. Its always been about the music and the music only. So this question is going to be real hard to answer. I really don't know enough about label, big or small, to really answer this properly. Now we have a shitload of friends involved with labels, running labels, in bands in labels, and whatever else. But as i see it, labels are there to help you for the most part if you choose to take that route. Now like ourselves, i really can't see a label helping us in any way that we can't do ourselves with a little hard work. Since we have no real desire to make it "big", the only thing they can do is spread our music. But we can do this on our own. Now standing on the outside of the band, i'd say that big labels would probably get you introduced to a bigger span of people but the more underground labels would get you more introduced to direct people. People that are far more into the music itself. This is of course just an opinion. Cause like i said, i really don't know shit about labels and don't really care to either. Just give me a guitar and an amp, and let me play some damn music!! Fuck the business shit!! haha!!
Which ones do you think that most help the underground scene?
Personally i'd definitely have to say the more underground ones. The big labels are trying to damn hard to "expand" the genre to more people. Death metal is just one of those genres that you just have to like yourself. There is alot to take in on any given band. So to try to sell that to a group of people that just don't care about the music itself, is bound to die off sooner or later. You just have to like it and that takes a certain understanding that not everyone is going to grasp.
I have seen somewhere in the net that you may release a full-length album, is that true or just an illusion?
And on top of that, we got some split cds lined up as well. So get ready for a whole shitload of shit to come out sooner or later. Hopefully real soon but you know how that shit works. haha!! We are greatly sorry about the time it has been taking us to get this thing out. Thanks to all of you that have patiently
waited. We really appreciate it!
Have you ever toured around U.S.A.? have you had the chance to go abroad (Europe for instance)?
Nope. We all are pretty busy with work and such to get on some big tour. Playing here and there is about all we can do. But it sort of makes it keep its fresh feeling that way. I would love to come over a play over there for all our friends abroad. That would absolutely fucking rule all! People over there have been so good to use. And we would love to come tear it up for you all sooner or later. Hopefully this will happen. But as for now, its not looking to happen anytime soon.
Chose One of them and one that has more to do with I.D.s personality:
Intensity Vs. Technique
Diverse Vs. Monotonous
Original Vs. Personal
Honest Vs. Posing
Influenced Vs. Copy
This is a hard one bro! haha!! I'd say the one that sticks out the most would be the "Honest Vs. Posing" one. Why, because to me its really important that people just believe in what they believe in and not follow something else just because it is cooler to do. Like for example with Inhuman Dissiliency, i know we are not doing anything new with this band. But what we are doing with this band is what we want to be doing. No matter how many people tell us that we suck, we're not original, we need to get a real drummer, etc. we know this! haha!! And we can homestly say that we still love it anyways. Anyone that is doing something, via band or anything else for that matter, that is not doing it honestly, they are bound to not be doing it long. So cut the chase.... Do what you believe in and it will turn out great in the end. Fuck what anyone else thinks! Posing is just bullshit if you ask me. Did i understand this question? Or am i talking out of place? haha! Either way, i see no really to pose as shit that you are not! Just be yourself.
We are close to end up with the interview. Do you think that all that stuff about mp3, peer to peer software, etc.. are they helping the rise of bands or not?
Yes! Computers in general have had a big impact on getting a bands name out there for sure. Take for example us, I put a website up for us an in less then a few weeks, people from damn near everywhere in the world started ordering merchandise, complimenting our music, etc.. This could not have happened this fast with trades and shit. I mean i had put our site up and the next night i had 3 people that had ordered merchandise already from across seas. Thats fucking amasing!! I really still have no fucking clue how they found out about us. But i know that they had mentioned that they loved the mp3 files. So this definitely proves that mp3 files helped us out. I guess it probably has its cases where bands don't find the right people to listen. Theres always cases like that. I guess we just got lucky. We are very thankful for anyone that has ever given us a chance. Even if they hated it. They still gave it a chance and thats all we can ask for right? This has pretty much all been done by computers. So i would definitley have to say that at least for us, computer software is a great tool for spreading bands names around.
I never saw such a new band with such variety of merchandise(you had the colaboration of Mike from Devourment)...T-shirts, button pins, stickers... do you think that having a nice mercahndise makes you to be better know and benefits you?
Our large variety of merchandise comes from not ever being about to find other shit. I guess in some way we just didn't want anyone that wanted merch from us to not have something to pick out of. And besides that, things just get old fast to me(at least merchandise). So its always fun to come up with something new to spice it back up. haha!! And yes, we are very thankful to Mike for helping us out with that shirt design. He's a great guy and has really helped us out in many ways. Thanks bro!! But as for a good variety of merch helping a band get more known, i'd say no. You can make all the merchandise you want, but if no one wants its you aint really doing shit for helping your band out. haha!! You still got to be able to sell it to the people. I have always been a big fan of other bands merchandise. so this is probably why we have so much of it. I personally think we need more, but... haha!! Just like to give people opinions. I mean if they take the time to listen to us, i would rather treat them to more then less. As long as people keep asking for more, we will provide them with more.
Add your last words. And here we end our trip with Inhuman Dissiliency. . Keep brutal.
Thanks Mikel!! You rule bro!! Good luck with your sick ass band man!! You ever need anything, you know how to get ahold of me. I would also like to take this time to thank all our friends from all around the world. If it wasn't for you all listening, we'd only be playing for ourselves. haha!! I can't fucking believe how many people have tuned into our noise. For whatever reason you did, Thank You!! I hope you continue to enjoy Inhuman Dissiliency tunes for a long time to come.
