Personally I think I did a better job then the professional Date Done: I started the process at 11 pm on February 25, 2004 and ended it at 12:30 am on February 26, 2004 Story: First and foremost I think it is important that people are well-educated on self piercing and have all available information before they go ahead and make a very draustic decision such as piercing their belly button. The first time I had my belly button pierced was in August 2003. I got it done professionally by a studio that does it free hand meaning no clamps. I followed the standard procedures for upkeep and everything with my new belly button accessory lol. Unfortunately as time went on I noticed that my hole started to migrate and the skin that covered it was becoming less and less. One day while in the shower the skin finally gave way and my belly ring came out and I was completely horrified. There was no bleeding or anything just the shock was enough and i was left with an indent sort of on my belly button. It was then I decided to say enough with this I'm going to go re-pierce this myself. Not only that I kinda am lacking the funds to go out and get it done professionally.. WHOOPS lol.. I started my journey of self piercing by icing my belly button for about 20 minutes. I then had a safety pin that was large and one that was smaller. The large safety pin was about the width of my belly ring that I was going to insert. The other pin was about average size I guess lol. Before anything got poked anywhere I made sure to sterilize my saftey pins and area that was getting pierced with rubbing alcohol. Next I tried to insert the pin in by going from bottom up, but that simply was not working. I also had to make sure since I had gotten my belly button pierced before to go far enough back to avoid where the scarring was and also to make sure there would be enough skin to cover the front of the ring. Since trying to insert from bottom up was not working, I then decided to go from top to bottom with the large pin. I had to stand up to do this and it actually worked better then sitting down. It took me about a half hour to get the pin all the way through my skin. I then took out the larger pin and put in the smaller one to try to loosen up the hole some and kept switching back and forth between them until I could insert my barbell. That process lasted for about 10 minutes or around there. I made sure to keep a window open in my room to let in some cool air so that I would not faint or get light headed either. Neosporin also helped to loosen the hole up because it served as a lubricant for the pins. Playing music also helps calm your nerves if you are nervous about doing it. ![]() Needle: 2 different sized safety pins... One larger one that had the width about the size of a 14g barbell, and the other was an average sized safety pin Gauge: About 14 g Purchased: I had it from when I got something at Hot Topic Cost: Around $0.10 Jewelry: Titanium Barbell Gauge: 14 g Purchased: I purchased the belly ring at Spencer Gifts Cost: $16 Aftercare: I basically am leaving it alone besides an occasionally cleaning. Over cleaning can cause irritation on the area and can actually prevent healing Purchased: Cost: TOTAL COST: I already had everything so it cost me nothing which is always good!! =D ![]()
