Story: Around the beginning of this year I decided I really wanted the little thing between my nostrils pierced. A bit of 'research' (aka asking someone) informed me that was my septum. Anywho, everyone I'd asked told me it hurt terribly. But it looks so neat. I had to do it.

Now, I have my impulsive moments, and it was at one of these moments that I decided I was just going to do the damn thing. So I left my computer (I'm often on my computer) found a sewing needle, cleaned it, and got in front of the mirror. It took me some time to figure out exactly where I needed to be punching this hole in my body. You're supposed to get it above the soft cartiledge at the bottom and below that weird stiff middle piece (its' actually a really small area, a 'sweet spot' even).

Anywho, I had no real idea where it needed to go, so I pulled the bottom of the septum down and picked a seemingly thin area. Then I pushed with the needle. It stung a lot. I'll admit that. I had to stop and take a breath. Most of it is that your eyes water and your nose tries to run because its wondering what the hell you're doing to it. Then you keep pushing and the worst part is getting it through the other side. Then you hear this quick 'tic', and it's through.

The whole job really doesn't hurt too much. The bad part, the first time it was crooked. The second time it was crooked. The third time... the charm. Then I just had to get the ring in. Which was so much harder. And actually hurt worse, because it was slightly bigger than the needle had been. I amost gave up. But then I had it. And I rested.

I was super paranoid about infection so Icleaned it all the time. At least when Igot up and before Iwent to bed. Usually, when Id get home from school or whatever too. And in the shower. All the time, but it healed perfectly, never a problem. I gauged it straight to a 14 and then down to a 16, which is just right for me. The main thing was hiding it from my parents until Iwas 18, some 9 months down the road, but since the ring I had at the time was open I could flip it up and no one could tell. End of story.
