.: Allergic Reaction :.

Everyone has had some sort of allergic reaction to something should it be an animal, nature, food, clothing fabric, or whatever, weve all experienced them and they definitely arent fun, even minor attacks. Dont think that because you havent had one in a while or maybe even never had some sort of allergy that you are perfectly save doing whatever when you get pierced, self or professionally.

Piercings ARE self-inflicted wounds, even if done professionally, they are still wounds and should be treated as such, making to take care of it including good jewelry and a good aftercare process. However, sometimes one such factor your body may not practically like.

Sometimes allergic reactions kind sort of look like its an infection. Typically, the piercing area will appear read, swollen, perhaps even sore or burning, however, they wont have the accompanying yellow crusties or junk. In words it wont look quite as severe as an infection would. The next step to insuring it is JUST an allergic attack is to look at what you have done to the piercing recently. Ask yourself these questions:

.: What kind of jewelry do I have in my piercing? Is it surgical steel, acrylic, or other appropriate metal/wood that should be in my piercing? Is it real titanium or is it just metal painted and not baked into the metal (so that the paint doesnt chip off ever)?

.: What kind of aftercare am I using? Is it anti-bacterial soap solution only twice a day for outside the body piercings? Or is it sea salts twice a day for outside or inside the body piercings? Or am I using ear solution for a self done navel piercing when its a navel piercing and not a ear piercing?

.: What did you use daily, such as facial soap, body soap, clothing, etc. that could be touching it through out the day that could cause an allergic reaction? Are someone elses body fluids (such as salvia) touching my piercing when its still healing?

If any of the above is questionable, such as what kind of jewelry you have in your piercing you should change such things ASAP! It could be something as simple as changing the type of jewelry you have in your piercing to switching the methods of aftercare. However, if even after you have changed anything that could be causing such an occurrence you may want to seek true professional help or it may be the sign of something more serious.
