“Here we are Joy,
Elliot.” I watched as the little girl helped the boy down to the ground.
“Would you two like
to meet every one?” Both children nodded without a word. I smiled as each took me by a hand as I
showed them around.
Both cubs
stopped in their tracks when we headed to where Skyla was sitting. Their mouths
dropped as tears started running down Joy’s face. I was puzzled, but before I
could ask both cubs let go and ran to the little girl that sat on the ground.
“Joy! Joy!”
Skyla screamed as she turned to see who was coming towards her. Skyla lifted
her arms up asking the older girl to pick her up
“You know each
other?”
“Yeah, Skyla’s
Elliot and mine’s sister.”
“Your what?”
“My sister,"
Elliot said clinging to both girls tightly. I was speechless. But after looking
at them for a few minutes I could see it in their faces.
*Why didn’t any
one catch it before.* I wondered as I watched the three.
“Mamma, can
they play?” Seeing Skyla interested in playing again made me over whelmed; I
couldn’t believe it! That little girl started chasing the little boy around the
banks just laughing and carrying on like there was no tomorrow.
Skyla looked to
her older siblings,
“You not leaving again.” She said as she nestled up to her a
sister once they stopped their game.
“Don’t worry,
Sky, We’ve both been adopted and live here now, like you do.” Sky didn’t say
anything as the three were lying on the ground; she had fallen asleep
A little while
later when the three were at dinner, Darcy tried to help Elliot with his
dishes, Skyla pushed her away,
“My
brother not yours!” She
said as she ripped the dish out of the girl's hand and carried it to the sink.
“Skyla Videl!” I scolded. “You know better than that!”
“Sissy,
our old mamma wouldn’t like it either” Skyla winced and backed up with a rare
display of fear in her eyes.
Puzzled I asked what the girl she had meant by that.
“Nothing… just
the fact that Mom would really let us have it if we took something from the other, she was really strict, mostly with Sky though for
some reason.”
“I’m a little, but not
that strict but I don’t like it when the older ones scare the younger ones like that.”
“Sorry”
“That’s alright
I’ll let it go this time.” I looked at the clock. “It's getting late, you all need to be getting ready for bed now.”
From down stairs I
heard, Skyla, “Elliot here, Joy here I’m in the mibble!”
