"Come on Whity, just a little more and then we should be able to
rest for a bit.," I told the gelding that was
beneath me. We had gone for a long ridding/ camping trip. We were looking for
the perfect place to stop and set up camp. The scenery that was about us was
beautiful! It was late fall and the leaves had started to take on the bright,
dull shades of yellow, red, and orange. The grass itself was starting to dull.
Patty O' Green once
said that’s how the plant survives the coldness. It stores everything into its
roots then sleeps until winter is over. It truly was beautiful.
I sat on a log
resting after climbing down off the horse's back to let him drink. I was a
little ways from home. About a days worth if I traveled slow, and could be
about half that if traveled quickly. I know some would scold me for taking off
for the night like I had. But with as many children as I have you need it every so often. I was kind of enjoying myself,
although I was missing them and all the chaos that they seem to know how to
cause.
After resting and
setting up camp for the night, I started on a small hike. I was just passing a
set of boulders and trees when I noticed a white piece of cloth on the ground,
wanting to see what it was I walked over and took a look. I was surprised to
see a Gummi, a Glen perhaps laying there. My heart stopped For
a moment I couldn't think. Quickly I ran over and looked her over. The blood on
her was still warm, but she was still. I called to her but she didn't answer.
As I looked her over I noted that she was expecting. For a moment I feared the
worse, that not only was her live taken but a second one as well. Something
compelled me to touch her belly, my response was a kick. I smiled it was still alive,
but not for long if someone didn't do anything, and FAST! I stood and thought
what could I do? I only brought enough for me. I shoved back the selfish
thoughts and ran to the tent grabbing as many blankest as I possibly could.
Grabbing my knife I ran back to take the baby myself. I quickly prayed that it
wasn't to late or that I wouldn't cut the unborn that
was still fighting for its life.
About five minutes
later, I was wrapping a tiny little thing in the blankets I had brought with
me, and trying to think about how I was going to get her to the house in time
to get her warm enough. Her breathing seemed to be alright, but she didn't cry
when I pulled her out, so I knew her life was still in trouble. I decided that
Darcy and Tanjia could come together and get my
things I had to get this one home. I now knew why it was that I was suppose to make that little box. It was for her. I called to
my horse climbing up with one arm is almost like breathing to me anymore as
many times as I have done this with one of my other infants was more times them
I could count.
That horse seemed to
understand cause
he took off like a bolt of Lightning, I held onto her as tightly but gently as
I could. I was so scared that I we weren't going to make it. But we did in half
the time that it took normally we got in there,
"Mamma, what’s
wrong? Why are you back already?" Ignoring my daughter I headed into the
bedroom,
"Darcy, pug the that in for me quickly!" I told her placing the
newborn into the box, not yet unwrapping her. Looking
up I spotted Tanjia.
"Tanni, please do me a favor and heat up as many hot water
bottles you can and bring them to me. Don't make them way to hot though just a
little." The little girl ran off and did as she was told. I turned the
heat up in my room on high I wanted to make sure the baby would be warm for abit.
My twins looked at
me with question.
"I know girls,
I normally greet you as soon as I walk in the door, but there was an emergency
and I had to get this one in before she got really sick.
I already knew the
chances for her survival were really slim. But I felt the need to help her in
anyway that I could.
Taking a warm cloth
I cleaned everything off of her that I could. She was pretty. Her body was
cherry red, and her hair was a deeper red than Scarlet's
hair. I didn't know about her eyes yet since she had
yet to open them. I held her close to me wishing that I could have saved her
mother as well as her. But this is the best that I could have done. Poor baby
though. She didn't even get to have her mother touch her. The newborn's body
and face was of a Barbic, but the fur and things were of a Glen which made
since to me seeing that her mother was Glen.
I laid her into the
box, and closed the lid, so that all the heat would work through her body. Then
turned to Darlita,
"You see this one, until I say other wise you and the other children are
not to touch her. Understand. Its not that I don't trust you its
just that right now Sukura can get really sick if
were not careful." I told my 13 year old before the two of us headed out
the door.
