“MAMMA! MAMMA!” Ursa woke to
someone screaming at the top of their lungs. “NO! MAMMA!”
Her first instinct was to go to Buddi, but when she noticed he was sound
asleep. She heard it again. She then turned towards Timmy’s room. When she
walked in the cub was shaking and sweating.
“NO GO AWAY!” He
shouted jumping out with a sword in his hand, Ursa, jumped back, realizing he
was still asleep. And he had no way of knowing what he was doing.
“Wake up, Timmy” She
said as gently as she could,
“Get back you
nisha’s you can’t have her!” Ursa understood then, he thought she was one of
those humans and he was protecting someone. Must have been is sister.
“Ursa?” Ursa turned seeing Buddi behind her.
“Buddi, get back to
bed. Everything’s fine.”
“What is he doing?”
“Don’t worry about
it Buddi, I have it under control. Now get back in that bed before there’s
trouble.” She said without taking her eyes off the cub, and the sword. Buddi new better than to argue at that point.
“Timba Ian, snap out
of it.” Ursa called out, looking for away to get the sword from him. She was
amazed that he could even lift the thing at his age. But she found an opening
and closed in on him, using one hand to take the sword from him. Putting it to
the side, she called to him again. After getting no response, she slapped his
backside once was all it took.
“W,..
What’s going on?” He asked. Trying to
make since of what was going on.
“I was hopeing you could tell me.” She told him
“I wish I could,
Ursa, but I really don’t know.” She watched as the kid sat on his bed and
huddle up against himself, he turned away, not wanting to show what he was
feeling. This didn’t surprise her, since
most Barbic’s were like that. She called to her, but his response was asking
her to leave. She was waiting for him to say something rude, but he didn’t. She
couldn’t believe it, but the wild child was gone, as far as Ursa was conserned.
“Alright,” She said
walking out trying, with Buddi, when he was like this she could hold him and
let him know that everything was alright, but with this one, that wasn’t the
case, it was like he rather fight these battles alone.
“Just make sure you
get yourself back to sleep before to long.” The cub nodded.
He waited a little
bit, then walked down the hall to Buddi’s room, once
he was at the door, he stood there staring at him. He felt someone reach down
and touch his shoulder, Timmy looked up,
“Ursa, I… I,…”
“You thought I went
to bed?” The cub nodded,
“I was going to but
I seen you walking down the hall.” She looked at him in wonder. “What are you
doing in here anyways?”
“I was a,….” Timmy stopped and started to turn away. Ursa shook her
head that cub was so hard to figure out. She watched as he went back into his
room and shut the door. She stood for a few minutes watching to see what would
happen. Then unknown to her why she did it, she walked into Buddi’s room and did
something that she had only done one other time, she kissed his forehead. Feeling grateful that this cub hadn’t felt the pain that she and
Timmy had. True his “parent’s” died as well but to him she was his
parent and she new that. Ursa leaned down again, and kissed her cub a second
time then headed to her own bed.
