I headed to the lake
where Skyla had started sitting at again now that the excitement of her two
elder siblings has shown up had died down. I walked over to her.
“Sky, it’s time for
you to come on home.”
“Can’t I stay here
longer Mamma,”
“It’s too cold for
you to be doing that, now.” I told her going to pick her up. Knowing that
wasn’t the only reason. Every since those creeps had come
around on the other side of the woods, taking Gummies and using them as slaves.
I didn’t feel right about letting the kids out alone after dark, at least for
right now anyways. Skyla interrupted my
thoughts as I started to carry her home.
“But
what if Cuddi comes tonight and I not here Mamma!”
“Cubbi knows where
we live Sky, he’ll come to the house if that
happens.” Skyla looked straight at me
and shook her head no,
“I stay here!” She
stated struggling to get out of my arms.
“Skyla stop it!” I
snapped taking a firmer hold and turning to head home with her kicking and
screaming.
Just as my back
turned, the sky light up with a bright blue light. Both of us knew that light,
“CUDDI!” Skyla yelled as she managed to get out of my
arms and run into the light. Plowing over the smaller figure.
“Hi Skyla,” The
small male cub said with the little girl sitting on top.
“I stay here and
wait and you come here!” She said as she threw her arms around Cubbi and
planted a kiss squarely on her lips. The look on Cubbi’s face was priceless, he
looked around dazed.
“GROSS I’VE BEEN
POISIONED!” Cubbi shouted out wiping his mouth off!
“Sky, if you let
Cubbi up, we can get some hot chocolate.
The Gummi looked at me with wide eyes,
“You know what sugar
does to a child Lass?”
“Her name’s Mamma
not Ass!” Sky said crossing her arms and standing in front of me, before I
could answer. I laughed as I picked her up.
“You sure are a whirlwind little Lass, like Cubbi here.” Skyla glared at
the elder Gummi who had introduced himself as Sir Plucki.
“I
Skyla not Ass!”
“I didn’t call you
that I called you Lass,”
“I
NOT ASS, Skyla!” She yelled
It took everything I had to keep from dropping her
because I was laughing so hard. Once
everyone had collected themselves, Skyla reached down and grabbed hold of
Cubbi’s hat
“Come on, Cuddi!”
“And yes I know what
sugar can do to a child, I have sixteen of them.” I told Plucki answering his
question from earlier.
“My
Cuddi here!” Skyla shouted as we headed inside.
“Please don’t
shout.” I told her firmly hoping that she didn’t wake any of the smaller
children.
“But I have to let
the others know that my Cuddi is here.” She said
trying to reason with me.
“I’m sure they will
know soon enough.” Skyla went to yell
again but I covered her mouth up,
“You do, and you’ll
go to bed without being able to play with Cubbi first.” Skyla glared at me
wanting to say something but bit down on her words and took off dragging her
friend off by his shirt.
“I need to excuse
myself for a few minutes, Sir.” I told him looking at the clock and seeing what
time it was.
“I’ll be back out in
about fifteen minutes, we can talk then.” He nodded looking at the mess of toys
that were scattered about the room.
