What a night. I never want to
do what I did again. I walked over hitched one of the horses to the cart. Then
went and picked up the baby. Then headed to the town square to setup shop.
I sat at my seat playing with
my Baby. Enjoying myself. That’s when Ulisa walked by
with one of her older ones. I think she was her oldest anyways. She and I
started talking for a bit. She asked about where the rest of my children were,
and I told her about how they were all back at the camp except this one. She
knew that Darlita was one of the most responsible thirteen year olds you could
come across. I think she was amazed at
the sight of Bliss but I'm not sure. We talked for awhile and as we did she
told me that I needed to stop at the agency there was a set of twin girls, in
need of a home. I didn't think twice. I agreed that later that night I would
stop in and see them. She said that they still needed some things done. But
they were otherwise healthy. I knew that the other girls wouldn't object. I
picked Bliss up and smiled. As I bid her good day. Telling
her that I would be by later that night. To fill out
the papers. That way, things would be getting started and by the end of
the month they would be coming home with me, I mean us.
I finished my days work
selling most of my goods. I then went around the shops getting the children
some things, toys, books, some extras that I would be needing
with a set of twins. Some more stuff for the medicine box. Along with the other
stuff that was on the list. Then headed back to the camp and got the girls
telling them of the new additions that would be joining us.
As I thought they all loved
the idea. They all cleaned up and jumped into the wagon as I put the bought
goods into the other.
"You know I thought we'd all walk."
I spoke Darlita nodded and agreed that it would be a good idea. We walked into
Ulisa's office.
"Ulisa, you remember the
girls, Don't you? That’s Skyla, Shanda, Bliss, and this one is Darlita."
Darlita greeted Ulisa,
"Jacien, Ulisa."
Ulisa walked over to use,
from behind the desk she was sitting, her mouth dropped. Of course, I too had
dropped my mouth; I didn't even know that she could speak Barbic. I could
barely speak it. So this was a surprise
to me as well. Ulisa said something to Darlita in Barbic, and Darlita answered
back the same way although I noted a mischievous look in her eye.
"Aez
fego." Ulisa's eyes went
wide. As well as mine, even though I didn't know much of it, I still knew. And
that type of talk was something that I didn't go for at all. Overwhelmed with embarrassment
I gave her a quick and hard swat.
"I will not tolerate,
disrespect Young Lady. You are not too old to be punished like I did the girls
last night, and if I ever hear you talk like that again, let me tell you,
you'll be in bigger trouble that you've bargained for. Do I make myself
clear?" Darlita nodded with embarrassment,
"What?"
"Yes."
"Now I want you to
apologize, and then take the girls outside while I talk to Ulisa about getting
the twins."
"Yes Mamma Selena."
"Si
mergai, Ulisa. Aez
nyie fego. mergai." She said then took the
hands of both Shanda and Skyla then headed out the door. I kept Bliss with me
so that she didn't get to fussy.
Ulisa and I started talking
to each other, about signing the papers and the twins’ history. As the door
opened and I very wide eyed Darlita poked her head in.
"Sorry Mamma, but I need
help. Skyla ran outside of building and is NOW on top of the roof across the
street."
"She's where, Dar?"
I asked stunned.
"I tried to grab hold of
her but she slipped from me, and took off."
"I know its not
you," I sighed as I went outside to try and get my daughter down.
"SKYLA VIDEL! Get down
from there right now!"
"No not until I get my
cookies!"
"You’re not getting
anything but a spanking!" I told her trying to keep from getting angry.
"Now you get down from there!" I turned to Ulisa who looked like she
was going to faint. Or freak out on me.
"Don't worry. Sky does
this type of thing all the time. I'm trying to get her to stop." She
nodded as I turned back to where my four year old sat.
"Young Lady! You better
do as I say, or punishment will be worse."
"Not until I get my
cookies," Skyla replied sticking her tongue out at me.
"Is there a ladder
around here," I asked. "If she's not coming down, I'm going after
her." I turned to my daughter,
"SKYLA VIDEL Walker, You
have a choice either you get down here, or I climb up there after you and if I
do that you'll get it up there where everyone can see." That must have
triggered something because that little girl walked over to the side of the
roof, and climbed down. As soon as her foot touched the ground, I ran to her
and started yelling,
"What were you doing?
You know better than that! Skyla you could have been hurt badly!" That
said I bent her over giving her a few hard swats to her backside. Once I stood
her up again, I got to her level,
"Now Skyla Videl, listen
to me and listen good. We are going back over there, and you Darlita and Shanda
are going to wait out in the other room, YOU are going to sit in the corner,
until I get finished. If you get out of that corner, there’s a wooden spoon
back at the camp that will be taken to you. DO you understand me? And you’re
never to anything like you just did again do I make myself clear?" The
child never said a word, just nodded her head.
"Good, now let’s get
going." I told her taking her writs, and crossing the road. I had to sigh
though. I couldn't believe that she had pulled that here. The rafters were one
thing but the roof.... That was another thing. I had never been so angry
before. I started to apologize for my daughter's actions. I could see that she
understood. I breathed a little easier after that one. She also understood that
I loved those children to death. I think anyways. After placing Skyla where I wanted her and
telling her very sternly to stay put. Ulisa and I headed back into her office.
"I'm sorry for my child
did that, Skyla seems to have no fear in her at all. After agreeing that I
would come back in a couple of days to get my twins, I would come back without
the children. They would stay back at the camp. That way nothing like what my
daughter did could happen again. Ulisa seemed to understand me and the strains
that can come upon a single parent. Of course she did also have the honor to
have gotten to know my Skyla before I had ever laid eyes on her.
Before I actually
left though I was taken into a brightly colored room. There was nothing but really young infants; she then
took me over to a set of bassinets. In them were the most beautiful and tiny babies
I had ever seen. They looked so content sleeping while they were wrapped in
their blankets. The one on my right opened her eyes and looked at me.
"Well what are you waiting
for go ahead and pick her up. She won't break," She told me. I did so
making sure to support her head.
"Well,
hello little one." I greeted
the child. She seemed to have smiled at me or at least make an attempt to.
"You're a little ray of
sunshine aren't you?" She looked into my eyes while I looked into hers. That’s
when I noticed she seemed to be much smaller than her sister.
"I guess you could use a
name, couldn't you?" I thought for a moment.
"Ulisa, I've got a name
for her a first anyways,"
"What is it?"
"Rei."
"What about the other
one?"
"I'm not sure I'll have
to think about that one." I said laying the baby that had fallen asleep in
my arms back into her bed, but not without kissing her forehead, and cheek.
That’s when the other one let
out the biggest wail I had ever heard.
"She beats Bliss in that
department really well; I think I said picking her up. I had to laugh at her
face though it was a very very deep red while she fussed and carried on.
"Hey take it easy
Scarlet, It’s alright. I wasn't going to leave without talking to you as well
first." I told her as someone handed me a bottle. I was led to where a
rocking chair sat, there I just held and rocked the second of my newest
daughters, while she ate her meal while I talked to Ulisa. She had told me that
they were born prematurely, and that Rei had just been taken off the machines
right before just came here they had only been here for a few days, but Rei
needed someone that was always going to be around, at least for right now.
Scarlet, has been doing fine, and hasn't shown or had any troubles. Which I was glad of. I was concerned about Rei and our trip
home though. I didn't want anything bad to happen to her. I was reassured that
she should be fine. Soon after seeing to it that Scarlet and Rei were both full
and sleepy again I decided that I needed to tend to my other four daughters who
were still waiting for me. I thanked Ulisa again for introducing me to my
twins. I then turned to Skyla who was still in that corner. I called her over
to me.
"Sky, I think you have
something to say to Ulisa."
"I don't."
"Yes you do, now tell her your sorry for scaring her to death and for embarrassing
her like you did out there earlier today." I said to her.
"I don't have to."
she stated stubbornly.
"Alright, when we get
back to the camp, you and I are going to have a talk." Skyla just glared
at me.
"Now get going!" I
told her sternly. I turned apologized again then bid my goodbye to Ulisa also
telling her before she leaves she was to give Scarlet and Rei my love again.
