I pulled the horses to a
stop, and went about setting up a camp for us. We were going to spend the day
just resting. After almost three days of none I needed it. I unhitched the
tired animals and gave them their well earned oats, and gave them some water.
Then set up the tent and baby's basket. I had Darlita help me carry the younger
ones into the tent.
Skyla did her famous wake up
call, landing knee first into my side.
"You’re going to have to
stop doing that! You're going to hurt someone one of these times!" I
scolded. I was tired and now sore.
""Sky, go back and
lay down!” You stay there until I tell you to get up." Skyla nodded. Knowing that she was close to trouble at this moment.
I told her taking her back to
her bed, and laying her back down.
I managed to get at least
three more hours of sleep, When I looked over, I seen that both Darlita, and
Bliss were us, Shanda and Sky were talking to each other, in their own way.
"Girls, you can go
outside now, if you'd like." I said getting out of bed.
After a quick meal I told the
girls to make sure that they got themselves cleaned up a bit, that we were
going into town. We hitched up one of the horses, and piled on; I decided to go
ahead and take the cart with us and get crates delivered.
It was fun watching those
kids with their mouths dropped open as we headed into town.
"Stick with me." I
instructed as we headed into one of the shops. This one sold different foods, I
told the clerk of the goods that they were out there in my cart, he gladly took
a few, and the others are where I would set up the others to sell on my own.
"Girls, pick out some
candy that you can share."
I thought I had seen her,
"Ulisa," I called
the woman had about six or seven little ones with her. But I guess she didn't
see me. And walked out.
"You guys pick what you
want?" They all nodded. I handed it to the clerk and paid for it.
"Let’s get the stand set
up." I showed them how to set the jars on the table so that they looked
nice and people would want to buy them.
I looked up just as Shanda
and Skyla started across the street.
"Hold it you two!"
I said raising my voice, walking over to them.
"First of all this is
not like at home, you have to stay by me you can get lost easily or someone
might try to take you. Second, you are NOT permitted to cross ANY street
without me or Darlita is that understood? I know you didn't know that but I
want you girls to both sit. I put one at on side of the cart, and the other at
the other side so they couldn’t look at each other.
"Either of you get up
before I say, you'll both be sorry, do you understand me?"
"Yes Mamma," Skyla
said as Shanda nodded her head.
"Good." I headed
back to my table and sat. I hate it when I scold them, they mostly do things
out of fun and they don't realize what they do can harm them. After a few
minutes, I was sure that they understood me; I let them up and let them play. Up
and down the street, not so far that I couldn't see them though. They made sure
they were listening. Not wanting to upset me.
I felt a tug on my leg. I
looked down to see Bliss pulling herself up.
"Well, hello Baby!"
I said pulling her up onto my lap. Kissing her forehead at
the same time. She squealed in delight as I talked and played with her.
"Did you want to talk to
your Mamma?" I asked her. I looked up as Darlita shouted at me. The both
little girls had taken off on me.
I handed Bliss to Dar,
telling her to sit with the goods, I'd be back.
I found the two down the
street. Shanda backed up seeing me angry.
"Shanda get over here
right now!" I told her as calmly as I could. "You
too, Skyla." Sky shook her head.
"I thought I told you to
stay with me!" I scolded, "You scared me to death, what were you
doing?" I took both by the writs and headed back to the stand.
"I'll take care of this
when we get to the camp you two, for now just sit." I told them, sticking
them up in the wagon. "Neither of you are getting up for the rest of the
time. I'll tell you something else as well. We are not going to be like this
the whole time. I will not put up with it!" Both children backed up and
stayed quiet. They looked into my eyes knowing that I wasn't joking. Stay put. I
did take care of it when we got back to the camp we were staying at. I also
decided to leave them back at the camp with Darlita tomorrow, and they were
going to stay in their tent and they were to stay on their beds. I would just
take Bliss with me. I wanted them to learn their lesson well. The look Shanda
gave me broke my heart, the tears in her eye made me feel horrible, but I new
it was something that had to be done. But it didn't help the fact that I still
felt bad when I went to bed. I always feel that way after I got after them.
That night as Darlita and I laid down, I could hear
Skyla still talking to Shanda. I sat up and looked over to them
"You two're supposed to
be in bed. I grounded the both of you earlier. Now go to sleep before I punish
you again!" I said sharply. After
that I didn't hear a sound out of either of them. I could have kicked myself
for snapping at them like I did. I normally don't loose my temper. Not with the
children at least. As I went to sleep the same tears that both my little girls
wept, ran down my cheeks.
