"Mamma! I got cookies! The Cookie Fairy came last night!"
My daughter cried out, practically jumping from the loft. Sometimes I think that
girl has no fear at all. The loud thump woke all four of the infants. I
groaned. As soon as Skyla had run in, I took her bag, and gave her a hard swat.
"You know better than to
jump down like that!" I scolded. "Now you've also woken those four.
You can have this back tomorrow."
"But
the Cookie....OW!" She was
cut off by another couple of swats.
"Now you can get over
there to that corner."
"But..."
*Swear that girl can argue
with the devil and win.*
"Unless you want a trip
over my knee for a real spanking you better do as I say." The girl stomped
her foot and headed out of the room as I set about getting the babies all taken
care of. Thank goodness for infant swings, one can't have too many of them. I
took the twins out into the living room and put them in the seats, two each so
that I could get the two crawlers. I put them on the floor so that they could
play until I had breakfast ready. I had to get the twins feed first seeing that
they are the youngest. I handed both Chase and Bliss their own bottles, knowing
that they could do that themselves. Knowing that I started everything with Rei
yesterday, I started with Scarlet this time.
After everyone had been feed,
and the kitchen cleaned, I
told the older three that they needed to stay inside. Sky asked
why.
"Because
we are going to start studying some lessons, Skyla." She wrinkled her nose.
*Oh boy, this is going to be
fun.* I thought.
"I'm going to
play!" I grabbed the back of her shirt.
"I don't think so. Young
lady get back over there and sit." I turned to Darlita,
"You pretty much know
what you’re doing right?" She shook her head.
"Good. That way I can work
with these two." I turned to Shanda and Skyla and started working with
them. After about an hour, I told them to go out and play. That was the beauty
of all this, we could go as fast or as slow as we wanted and there would be no worries.
I watched Skyla lead her horse out of the barn, and down a path. I had looked
down at the tug on my long skirt and reached down to pick Bliss up. I kissed
her cheek.
"How's my girl?" I
asked her. Bliss was trying to answer me the best that she could by her babbles
and giggles.
"You want to play out
here?" I had put up a fenced in area for all the babies to play in. As she
squealed, I put her inside and shut the gate. That’s when I noticed Chase
crawling over to me, fussing, I sighed, picking him up.
"What? I'm right
here." He curled into my chest, holding onto me. Darlita had come over to
us and started to talk. She got close enough that when Chase noticed and
smacked her over the head.
"Chace, no!"
I scolded and put him down. In result, he started crying as loud as he could.
"I'm not going to hold
you when you hit others." I told him. "Now stop that." I scolded
as I walked passed him, knowing that he would be following, and fussing for all
its worth. I continued to talk to Darlita.
"I don't know, maybe.
I'll have to think about that, and we'd have to talk to her about it. And I
don't think that they'll be here until the Night of the Burning Stars."
"Oh."
I pulled Darlita's
chin up gently so that our eyes were meeting.
"I think it’s great that
you want to learn that, and I'm not discouraging it, I'm just not sure that I
want you to go on that kind of trip alone." I had to stop and pick my son
up; he was fussing enough that he was making himself gag.
"Chase
Cullen that’s enough. This fit's
not necessary." Sure enough, as soon as he was on my lap he stopped. I
rolled my eyes. This kid was beyond the definition of Mamma's boy. I let the
swing sway as Darcey and I talked, I looked down to
see that Chase had fallen asleep. I knew that if I would put him down in his
bed he'd wake again so I just held him to me. It occurred to me that I should
check on my other children though. ‘Cause knowing Skyla she was probably up to
some type of mischief. Keeping my sleeping son in my arms, I walked around the
house first, spotting Shanda. I had to keep from laughing. She was trying so
hard to read a book and she was trying to make some type of sounds. I guess the
one she made earlier was enough of an incentive. I knew she wanted to talk. I
decided to leave her be, and headed in the direction that I had seen Skyla and
Cookies go this afternoon. Those two were playing in the open fields that were
on the other side of the woods. I ended up watching the strangest game of tag I
had ever seen in my life. It was funny. Noticing that the bundle in my arms was
starting to stir, I headed off. I know my children get to do practically whatever
they want. I mean, I do have my rules, but there’s not many around here; they
can play as much as they want and pretty much go as far as they want without my
worrying.
That night at dinner, I had
told my children that instead of going back out they were going to study some more.
"Don't give me that look
Shanda." I scolded. "Now go get your things." Not wanting to
upset me, Shanda did as I told her.
