For some reason, I had the urge
to get up early and head into the living room. There was the big and tough
Timmy and sweet little Tanjia sleeping. Timmy’s right
arm was wrapped across the girl protectively. Not wanting to wake them, I took
a couple of blankets and draped them over before heading back to bed.
“Morning
Mamma.” I opened my eyes, only to
be nose to nose with Skyla.
“Morning
Sky.” I said, as I pulled her to
me.
“Are the others up yet?”
She nodded. “All but Timmy and Tanni; they still
sleeping.”
“Just be sure to let them
sleep.”
“Mamma?”
“What?”
“Is My Cuddi
going to be here for my birthday?” My heart fell to my knees.
“I don’t think so, Sunshine,
he’s home now.”
“But I want him, Mamma.” I
picked her up and sat back down on the bed, placing her on my lap.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t think
it’s going to work.”
“Why he not like me?” Stunned,
I turned to her.
“Of course he likes you, Cubbi’s just where he needs to be. In
his own time.” Skyla slid off my lap and ran off.
After about
“Tanni,
Timmy has some things he has got to do. Why don’t you go and play with one of
the girls; one of them should be around.” She gave me the ‘okay’ nod.
“Darcy have you seen Skyla
lately?”
“The last time I seen her she
was down by where Ursa and them left the other day. She said she was going to
wait there until her Cubbi came back.” I had to laugh. That little girl really
had it bad. And she didn’t even know what it really was yet. “Has she eaten anything
at all today?”
“Not that I
know of.” I pulled a basket out of
the closet and filled it with a sandwich, fruit, and some juice.
“I’ll be back; I’m going to
have her eat this.” Darcy turned back to her book as I took off. I noticed that
her horse was still here. That’s a first. Normally, Cookies was with her. That
poor child missed that boy like crazy.
“Hey
Sunshine.” I called out to her as
I sat beside her. “I brought something for you to eat.” I told her trying to
hand her the sandwich.
“No!” She stated, pushing it
away from her.
“You haven’t eaten anything
at all today and you hardly touched anything last night. You’re going to eat
this and you’re going to eat all of it.”
“NO” Stubbornly, she turned
from me.
“Skyla, I know you’re upset.
But it’s not going to bring them back any sooner.” She kept staring at the
place that the portal had once been.
“Have you at least fed
Cookies today?”
“Oops.”
“Oops is right; the rule is
that you could have the horse if you took care of her. Now you forget to feed
her. The next time you forget you’ll have to stay in your room for the day.” I
told her, trying to hand her the food again. This time she grabbed it and threw
it to the other side of her. Standing her up, I swatted her. I walked over picked
it up, put it back into the basket, then picked her up, and carried her back to
the house.
“LET ME GO!” She screamed and
kicked, punching me as I carried her
“That’s enough Skylay Videl.”
“PUT ME DOWN!”
“Sorry, you’re acting up way
too much. We’re going to go inside, you’re going to eat your lunch then you’re
going to bed. I would have let you go if you had just done as you were asked
instead of throwing this fit.” I winced as a sharp pain shot through my
shoulder. I then realized that Skyla had just sunk her teeth into me.
“Young lady, if you don’t
want me to take the switch to you I suggest you stop now.” I growled to her. That made her stop in her tracks. She looked at me skeptically.
“I mean it. I haven’t had to
use it on you yet, but I will if I have to.”
I carried her inside and set
her at the table, putting her food there. Finally giving in, she ate slowly and
quietly. She looked to me; I hadn’t left the table,
“Alright, I want you in your
bed when I get up there to check on you.”
“But I’m going....”
“You threw that fit, forget
it. You’re going to bed.” I told her, not even wanting the fight so I picked up
and took her to her bed myself.
“You stay there!” I told her
firmly.
“Mamma, Skyla’s not in here.”
Shanda called from up on the loft.
“She’s what?” I asked heading
up to check it out.
“Thanks Shanda,” I told her
trying to keep my temper in check. Taking off to the lake… taking off after
her.
