Chapter Fifteen
Day Fifteen

Donna woke Sunday morning at 6 am and for a few minutes she had forgotten about Chrissy dieing. She felt someone’s hand on her shoulder and turned over to find Josh in her bed sleeping. Then it all came back to her and she burst into tears thinking of the loss of her baby girl. She was trying hard to keep quiet while she cried so as not to wake Josh, but she didn’t succeed. Josh woke and after rubbing his eyes a little he sat up and slid over next to his mom and gave her a hug. He told her not to worry for he knew Chrissy was in heaven and she wouldn’t want them to be crying so much. Donna told him she knew but it was still hard not to cry.

Josh got up and told his mom he was going to make the coffee for her and asked if she wanted something to eat also. She told him that was very sweet of him but while he was making the coffee she was going to shower and get dressed. She told him if Jim, his grandparents, aunt or uncle called to tell them she was up and for them to come on over. Josh told her ok and headed to the kitchen. Donna got up and went into her private bath to get her shower.

Jim woke and noticed it was only 6 o’clock. He showered, shaved and then got dressed. He headed for the restaurant for some coffee and maybe some breakfast. Once there he saw several of the factory workers. They had come there to se if there was any news of the arrangements for Chrissy’s funeral. Jim told them it would be Monday at 10 in the morning. He then told that the friends and public could pay their respects at the funeral home after it opened at 8 this morning.

He drank his coffee while waiting for his breakfast and a few times he almost burst into tears as he thought of Chrissy. He kept thinking of what she had said about wanting him to adopt her and Josh if he married their mom so they would have a dad again. Jim thought of how hard it must have been on the two kids when their dad had died. He couldn’t help letting a few tears escape and as he quickly wiped his eyes he looked around to see if anyone had seen them.

Jennifer came in about then and walked to where he was sitting and asked if she could join him. He told her yes and as she sat down she told Jim that she just couldn’t imagine what Donna was going through as she would have died herself if it had been her son that died. Jim told her that Donna had to be one strong person for she was holding really well with all that had happened. He told Jennifer the more he got to know Donna the more he wanted to ask her to marry him, but knew now it would have to be a while before he could do it. Jennifer told him that maybe if he asked soon after the funeral it would help to ease the pain of the loss Donna was feeling. Jim thought about this and then told her she might be right about it.

They both looked up as they heard someone else coming into the restaurant and saw Mrs. Wilcox coming towards them. She asked Jim if he was doing ok and after he said yes, she turned to Jennifer and asked the same of her. Janet then asked when the service would be and where Chrissy would be laid to rest at. Jim told her the arrangements and she then asked him how Donna was holding up to it all. He said when he left her the night before she was doing pretty well but he had not yet spoken or seen her this morning. He said that after he left he was going to Donna’s to check on her and also see if she was going to church or not. Jennifer and Janet both said they were going to church and would love to have Jim join them even if Donna decided not to come. Jim thanked them and excused himself so he could go see Donna.

It was just a little past 7 when Jim arrived at Donna’s house. He knocked and Josh opened the door and invited him in, telling him his mom was in the kitchen. Jim made his way to the kitchen and found Donna sitting at the table still in her robe with her hair wrapped in a towel. He walked over to her as she stood to hug him. They hugged each other tightly and kissed briefly. As they continued to hold each other Donna spoke softly telling Jim she was really hurting a lot but him being there had softened the pain some. He told her he was more then happy to be able to ease the pain even in the least amount. He then let her sit back down as he poured himself a cup of coffee and refilled her cup as well. After putting the pot back in the coffee maker he stepped up behind Donna and slowly started massaging her shoulders and neck. She just sat there and the more he massaged the less tense she felt. She told him felt it really well and if he was tired he could quit. Jim continued the massage for about 5 minutes more.

Just as he had sat down to drink some of his coffee Connie walked into the kitchen. She hugged Donna and said morning to Jim. She then got a cup of coffee and sat down at the table. She told Donna that the rest of the family had decided to go by the restaurant for breakfast but she had her husband drop her by the house so she could spend some time with Donna in case she needed to talk. Then she looked at Jim and said she was sorry if she had interrupted anything and smiled as she said it. Then quickly adding she was only trying to get them to smile as they both were looking pretty gloomy. Jim smiled and Donna spoke up and said she wasn’t interrupting anything as Jim had already finished her massage. Donna smiled at Connie and winked at Jim after saying this and they all three laughed a little. Donna then said it was nice to remember how good a little laughter could make her feel even in bad times.

Connie told her the house really looked good and she was sure glad that Donna had ended up with it after all. Donna explained she would never have gotten it back if it hadn’t been for Jim’s generosity for he had bought it for her and had even paid for it to be restored back the way it was when mom lived there. He even bought all moms’ furniture that was still in the house when she lost it. Connie turned to Jim and said it was too bad she was already married as she would give Donna some hard competition if she wasn’t. Jim told her that he didn’t know if he could handle two women fighting over him or not. He then asked if there were much difference in age between them as they looked like twins. Donna laughed and Connie spoke up saying they were one year apart. Donna was the youngest then her and then there bother was the oldest.

The three of them talked for a few minutes and Jim asked if they were going to church today as some of the others from the factory had asked him earlier. Donna said she thought she might not go today and Connie said she might go if the family would go with her. A few minutes later the Clifton’s came in accompanied by the rest of the family members. Juanita spoke up and said they all were going to church and that Josh had said he would also like to go. She then asked if the three of them were going to join them. Donna told her she knew she should but didn’t feel like it and Jim said he was going to stay with Donna. Connie spoke up and said she was going with them.

After everyone had left for church Donna got up from the table and told Jim she needed to fix her hair and get dressed for she was still in her pajamas. Jim told her he would be ok in the kitchen and if she needed him to just holler. Donna turned as he stood and hugged him tightly. He held her close and felt her tears wetting his shirt. He told her to go ahead and let it all out for he was there for her. She asked if he would help her to her room and he slowly walked with her hugging him tightly towards her room. Once in the room she maneuvered around so they were next to the bed. As she sat down Jim sat beside her still holding her tightly. She kissed him and as they kissed she fell backwards on the bed pulling Jim with her.

Donna had her hands running over Jim’s back and then his chest as he tried to keep from pressing down on her very hard as they continued to kiss. She moved his hands from her back around to her breast and as she pressed his hands into them he started gently caressing them. She moaned in passion as he kneaded her breast and flicked his fingers over her nipples. She rubbed his chest and then she unbuttoned his shirt. Jim was almost to the point of no return when he finally realized what he was doing. He snapped out of quickly and rose up as he begged Donna to forgive him for his actions at a time like this for he shouldn’t have done any of this. Donna looked him in the eyes and told him she wanted it so badly she couldn’t control herself.  She told him that it had been over 5 years since she had been with a man in that way and she figured it might help ease her pain some.

Jim told her he thought it wouldn’t do much except for maybe temporarily taking her mind off the current events and that he wanted it to be extra special the first time they did it. She apologized to him and he said it was her fault it was his since he was the one who was supposed to be strong. They sat there holding each other for about twenty minutes. Then Donna kissed him and stood up saying she was going to take another shower and get dressed. Jim said ok and headed to the kitchen for another cup of coffee.

When Donna returned to the kitchen she had the black dress on that Jim had bought her for the funeral. She looked really nice in it and he told her so. She blushed lightly as he told her and then she said she only hoped looked better then she felt. She then asked if he was wanted to change before they went to the funeral home and if he did they could go by his motel on the way. He said he thought he should since his shirt was still wet from her tears and she blushed at this also. They left and went to Jim’s motel room. As Jim was changing Donna sat at the table and watched some TV.  After Jim changed they headed to the funeral home.

When they arrived at the funeral home there were already a lot of people paying there respects and there were so many flowers and gift items that the funeral home had started setting them in the main hall and foyer. As they entered the room where Chrissy was Jennifer and Mrs. Wilcox both spotted them and made their way over to them. Jennifer hugged Donna and told her she was real sorry for her loss. Then Janet hugged Donna and told her she knew what she felt and with time and love she would learn to deal with it. Donna thanked them both and told Mrs. Wilcox that she might be calling her during the following week if her offer was still good. Janet told her it was still good and also to please call her Janet from now on as she hoped everyone would since she considered them all friends and was very sorry for not seeing the friendship earlier at the factory. Donna said it was ok and she would call her Janet.

It was about 1:30 before the rest of the family showed up. Josh went straight to the casket and stood for over an hour there. Each time someone would try to get him to go sit down he would just say that he was spending time with his sister and he was ok. Jim finally asked if he could talk with him and they headed outside for some privacy. Josh asked Jim what he wanted to talk about and Jim told him he was thinking of what Chrissy had had told him the night before she died. He then told Josh he wanted very much to marry his mom and also if Josh wanted it he would like to adopt him. Josh looked at him and tears began to run from his eyes as he told Jim he would enjoy being adopted as that would mean he would have a dad again.

Josh explained to Jim that it wasn’t the same when your mom took you to father and son events or tried to teach you stuff that dad’s usually taught. Then he surprised Jim by stating there was no way he could ask his mom about girls either for she was one. Jim actually chuckled a little at this and told Josh if he wanted to ask him anything or have him do something with him he didn’t have to wait that he would be more then happy to help him in any way.

Josh asked if he could give Jim a hug and after Jim said it was ok Josh hugged him tightly and told him it was great to have him around. Jim held Josh and told him he was glad that he felt that way about him for he liked being around Josh too. They ended the hug and went back inside. Josh went to his mom and told her everything was going to be ok he just knew it would be. He then hugged Donna and told her he loved her.

Donna told Jim she was now getting hungry and so the three of them made their way to the dining area in the funeral home. There they found more food then what had been left at the house. They grabbed a plate each and put a few different things on them then Jim got them all three a soft drink and they sat down to eat. Donna and Josh started talking of all the great times they had while Chrissy was living and before long they were talking of when Harris, the kids’ father was living and how much fun they had when the whole family was together. Jim sat there listening and was even feeling a little envious of what the two had to talk about for he had never been a father and was married only for three years. His marriage ended in a dirty divorce because his wife was an alcoholic that didn’t want to quit drinking and hated him for trying to make her do it.

Donna looked over at Jim after about 30 minutes and told him she was sorry for not talking with him that they had just gotten wrapped up in memories. Jim told her it was ok he just wished he had good memories like that to get lost in also. Donna told him maybe that would change in the near future and gave him a smile and a funny look.  Jim wondered what it meant but just figured he was feeling a little tired. Donna excused herself and told them she would see the two of them back in the other room. Josh looked at Jim and asked him if he knew where the men’s room was as he needed to visit it. Jim explained where it was and after the two left him he sat there alone for only a minute.

Connie came over to him and asked if she could speak with him. Jim told her of course and she sat down where Donna had been sitting. She told Jim of how Donna had spoke to her of him and how much she wanted to become his wife. Connie said she was only telling him this so he wouldn’t think that he was pressing Donna too hard to become his wife. She then told him that Donna had also told her of what happened earlier at the house. Jim blushed and she told him it was ok and understandable for Donna had thought it might help to ease her pain. She told him that Donna had also told her that she never had wanted to be with a person including Harris as much as she wanted to be with Jim.

Jim told Connie he was thankful for the information she had given him but he was a little old fashioned when it came to dating. He then asked her when she thought would be a good time for him to propose to Donna since Chrissy had died and all. Connie spoke up quickly telling him the quicker he did it the better Donna would feel overall and she could start healing with his love over her loss of Chrissy. She then asked if he had thought of how he was going to propose to Donna yet. He told her a little but nothing was set in cement. She said if he wanted she would give him some feedback on the ideas as she knew Donna really well.

Jim explained he had thought of asking her at her house one evening. He was planning on having someone look after the kids, now of course just one, and he was going to cook her a nice dinner. Then set the table with her mom’s china and have candles and everything. Just after dinner he was going to serve desert which would be accompanied by a small box and when she opened the box he was going to get on bent knee and ask her to be his wife. Connie said it sounded lovely and if he wanted to do it soon that her family was going to be in town until Wednesday afternoon and they could take Josh for a night. Jim told her he hadn’t planned on it being that early but would let her know soon.

Jim looked at his watch and told Connie it was already 7pm and they would be going soon as the funeral home closed on Sundays at 8pm. Connie asked if he wanted to have some time alone with Donna as she would be happy to take Josh with her family. He said that would be nice as he wanted to make sure Donna was ok and needed to talk to her alone. Connie went to talk with Donna about her taking Josh and Jim slowly made his way towards Donna and Josh. As he came up to them Josh was saying he would go with Connie but only if his mom was sure she would be ok. Donna told him she would be ok as Jim was going to sleep in his room if he didn’t mind so he could be there for her if she needed someone. Josh told her it was ok with him and he would see her the next day.

Donna hugged him and gave him a kiss on the cheek and told him she loved him. She turned to Connie and told her she would see her the next day also and to let her know if Josh didn’t behave himself. Connie told her not to worry he was always good for her. They left and Jim noticed that the people were starting to thin out a lot. In about 20 minutes there were only Donna and Jim left.

Donna asked Jim if he was ready to go and he told yes. They walked to his van and then drove to Donna’s house. When they got there Donna said she was going to change out of her dress and Jim said he would make some coffee. As he walked thru the living room he turned on the TV and then went to the kitchen to get the coffee on. As he was pouring their coffee he heard Donna come in to the kitchen and he turned to face her. She was wearing her robe and she had dried her hair after her shower instead having it wrapped in a towel.

She hugged him and told him she wanted to be held. He asked if she wanted to watch a movie as he already had the TV on. She told him she would rather have a back and neck massage if he felt up to it as she was as tense as could be. He told her ok but he wouldn’t guarantee how long he could do it before he tired out. She just smiled real big and headed towards her room taking her coffee with her. Jim grabbed his coffee and turned off the coffee maker. He turned out the lights and went to the living room. He turned off the TV and then the light in there as he headed towards Donna’s room.

When he entered Donna’s room she was laying on the bed on her stomach in her gown. He saw her robe hanging on the hook by the closet door. The gown she had on was one that came down about mid thigh. He looked at her legs and noticed just how beautiful they were. He slowly sat down beside her on the bed. Then he rubbed his hands together and started massaging her shoulders. As he moved his hands over her shoulders Donna gently moaned. She then spoke up and told her it was making her feel very nice. It wasn’t long before Donna was sleeping from the relaxing massage he was giving her. He pulled the covers up on her and gently kissed her. He told her goodnight and slipped quietly out of the room turning out the light on his way. He went to Josh’s room and slipped out of his clothes and got into bed. He was so tired he seemed to fall asleep immediately.
