One in a
Billion Chapter One As Jim Davis turned
the van he was driving into the parking lot of the motel of the mid-sized town
in central eastern He went to the
office of the motel, not a chain motel, but one similar to smaller sized
cities, owned by investors and usually operated by some local people. There was
a woman behind the counter, Jim guessed her to be in her mid thirties, medium
build brunette with a baby doll smile on her face. She greeted him and after
getting his name, turned to the computer and confirmed his reservation, then handed
him a key card to his room. She told him the room was equipped with internet
hookup and a fax line, and if he needed anything else she would be on duty all
night. Jim thanked her and headed out the door to his van. Jim drove around to
his room and after opening the door he removed his suitcase and laptop case
from the van and went into the room. He set up the laptop and hooked it to the
internet connection and started checking his messages, while they were
downloading he opened the suitcase and removed bath bag as he called it that
contained his own soap, shampoo, comb, razor and deodorant. He placed this bag
on the sink counter and then stepped back out to the van to get his small
cooler that still had four canned drinks in it. When he returned he sat the
cooler on the sink counter also and removed one of the drinks, then returned to
his laptop and sat in the chair beside the table to read his messages. Jim turned the TV on
as he was finishing his messages, and after they were done, he decided to lie
on the bed and watch a movie. He wondered if anyone in the factory would know
who he was or if he could get a chance to see how the workers really were
before they figured out he was the new owner. The attorneys had told them they
had sent papers showing him as the new owner, but had never mentioned what he
looked like, and Jim had refused having his picture sent prior to his visit. He
liked to see people being themselves instead of acting like brown nosing snobs.
He always seemed to be a regular guy instead of a billionaire as he usually
wore jeans and a casual shirt, if he dressed up it meant he wore a dress shirt
and usually black jeans. Jim never liked suits or ties at all and refused to
wear them. |
