Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Japan ITTO is an
intergovernmental organization promoting the conservation and sustainable
management, use and trade of tropical forest resources. |

Conservation Society (WCS) Research Fellowship Programme The Wildlife Conservation
Society saves wildlife and wild lands through careful science, international
conservation, education, and the management of the world’s largest
system of urban wildlife parks. These activities change attitudes toward
nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in sustainable
interaction on both a local and a global scale. WCS is committed to this work
because we believe it essential to the integrity of life on Earth. |
SIGMA Xi –
The Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi (Xi is pronounced
with a "Z" sound—"Zi"—as in
"xylophone") was founded in 1886 to honor excellence in scientific
investigation and encourage a sense of companionship and cooperation among
researchers in all fields of science and engineering. Today, it is an
international, multidisciplinary research society whose programs and
activities promote the health of the scientific enterprise and honor
scientific achievement. |

The Inlaks Foundation was created by Mr. Indoo Shivdasani in
1976 and registered as a charitable Trust in Liechtenstein in 1982. The major
objective of Inlaks Foundation is to identify exceptionally talented young
Indian students and support them financially to develop their special
skill and talents to the maximum. |
Ministry
of Science and Technology, Government of India The ministry provides
funding to Young Scientists (< 35) to carry out research projects. The
necessary documents can be found online. |

National Geographic Research Grants The National Geographic Society awards grants for scientific
field research and exploration through its Committee for Research and
Exploration. All proposed projects must have both a geographical dimension
and relevance to other scientific fields and be of broad scientific interest. |
International Council for Science ICSU, with generous financial support from UNESCO, awards 10-15
grants annually to support collaborative projects proposed by its members.
This "seed-corn funding" (maximum $100k) is often used to lever
funding from other sources and the competition for awards is very intense. |

Space Foundation The Earth and Space
Foundation is an international charity that funds scientific exploration that
helps us both understand the Earth's environment and explore the frontier of
space, bringing the environmental and space exploration communities together
to address the challenges facing society |
The John Jarrold Trust was set up in 1965 by the then Chairman
John Jarrold and his first wife Grace. It was established with the object of
promoting, supporting and advancing charitable purposes of all kinds. It is a
company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital. The
Trust’s income is derived from dividends from its shareholding in the
company. |

Each year, The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation
provides grants of up to $10,580 (a symbolic amount representing the cost of
the "Spirit of St. Louis") to men and women whose individual
initiative and work in a wide spectrum of disciplines furthers the
Lindberghs' vision of a balance between the advance of technology and the
preservation of the natural/human environment. |
This award targets young researchers carrying-out
interdisciplinary research in line with UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB)
Programme. Priority is given to projects carried-out in biosphere reserves,
on the theme of ecosystems and water. |

Sophie Danforth Conservation Biology Fund Since 1989, Roger Williams Park Zoo and the Rhode Island
Zoological Society have awarded a total of over 40 annual grants of $1000
each to conservation projects worldwide through the Sophie Danforth
Conservation Biology Fund. Field studies
and other projects that demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to
biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and projects that involve in-country
collaborators receive the highest funding priority. Environmental education
programs, development of techniques that can be used in a natural
environment, and captive propagation programs that stress an integrative
approach to conservation are also appropriate. Projects must directly affect
biological conservation. |
Franklin
O'Neill Memorial Scholarship The criteria for the scholarship is to write an essay of fewer
than 1,000 words on how one person in particular has influenced your life in
a positive way. Essays will be accepted via easyaid.com: no postal mail or
faxes will be accepted. The essay must be written in English. The award is
US$ 1,000. |
