After several practices drills the team seem to come together as a team and not individuals from different teams in the United States. Brooks didn't want to cut someone from the team but he only needed a 20 player roaster and he had 21. As they were practising someone knew came on the ice, Tim Harrer. Herb Brooks had brought him back to mess with their minds as they put it.

They played against the IIHF All Stars. After the game, a couple players gathered up before getting on the bus. They were mad that Brooks brought back Tim Harrer. They told him how they had bounded and that were like "a family" (See Clip). Brooks told them that he was going to send Tim Harrer back home...They all gathered up together to celebrate Christmas. Everyone was happy, including the coach.

Assistant Coach, Craig Patrick came in the locker room and headed towards Ralph Cox. He told him that Herb Brooks wanted to talk to him. Cox knew his end was near. The coach told him that he was the last cut of the camp. Ralph Cox was satisfied that he gave him the chance to play.

Herb Brooks planned an exhibition before the big games in Lake Placid against the Soviets. They were playing at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. They lost badly, 10-3. Jack O'Callahan was injured. He had a strech ligament. Doc said he couldn't play but Jack was ready for the next game. Before Brooks left the arena, he told the goalie that he might switch him because he wasn't there at all by letting ten goals in.

The beginning of the Olympics in Lake Placid...

Jack O'Callahan was standing in the middle of the ice. Herb Brooks told him that he would keep him even though he was injured. O'Callahan was really happy, jumping on his crutches on the ice.

First game against Sweden. Sweden was up 1-0 in the first period. Herb Brooks came into the room after the first period and gave them a hell of a speech. He got his players motivated. They were finally pump. With over a few seconds to play in the game, the United States score, to tie the game 2-2. They moved on and beat the Czechs 7-3 and then Norway 5-1.

The Big Game had arrived.

Herb Brooks finalized his game sheet and headed to the locker room. It was a complete silence. Players were all focused on their game. "Great moment are born from great opportunities" said Herb Brooks. "Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world!" "This is your time! There time is over!"

First Period...the crowed was cheering very loudly. U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A! The puck drops! Lots of bodychecking, one misjudged call and the soviets score on a deflection. 1-0 Soviets. USA coming back strong. Herb sends in O'Callahan..after a big bodycheck, USA SCORES. Jim Craig keeps on making great saves, one after the other. After some great passing by the Soviets, 2-1 for the Soviets. With 1 second left in the period, the United States score to tie up the score 2-2.

Second Period...A surprise, the best hockey goalie at the time is not in net. He has been benched. What a great relief for the United States. Soviets score and lead 3-2.

Third and final period...The crowed pumped more then ever. U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A! "We've come from behind everytime and we can do it again. We can beat these guys!" Faceoff won by the US. Great saves by Jim Craig! Penalty coming up to the Soviets for slashing...Big Chance for the United States to come back in the game. United States Scores with a few seconds left in the powerplay. Soviets coach getting worried behind the bench. Jim Craig making save after save. Amazing! MIKE ERUZIONE SCORES!!!!! Still 10 minutes left to play...Craig makes a huge saves! 5 minutes left in the third period...3 minutes left...Soviets Coach screaming at his players... 1 minute and a half left...Save after save by Jim Craig...LAST MINUTE IN THE THIRD PERIOD - 3,2,1 DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES......YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

After coming from behind once again, the United States won the GOLD medal over Finland in the finals.
