| January 7, 2002 Dean E. JONES Retired truck driver Dean E. Jones, 71, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at his home. Born Jan. 24, 1930 in Ajax, Ky., he was the son of Raymond and Hazel Jones, who are deceased. He retired in 1983 as a coal truck driver for Walls & Coker and for Waco Trucking. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Christine Montgomery Jones; three daughters, Teri Jones and Tammy Tinker and her husband, Donnie, all of Oliver Springs, and Linda Inman and her husband, Tom, of Harriman; and a grandson he considered special, John Tinker of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by five brothers, Don Jones, Laverne Jones, Paul Jones and L.C. Jones, all of Oliver Springs, and Harold Jones of Detroit, Mich.; and two sisters, Opal Dillard and Jenny Lou Weathers, both of Georgia. Ed Aslinger, Louie Bowling, Bill Lively and Gene SEIBER were among his many special friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his son, Dean E. Jones Jr.; two sisters, Sue Jones and Lois Duncan; and a brother, Eugene Jones. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Oliver Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Hoskins, 94, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Lake City Health Care Center in Lake City. Born March 17, 1907, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of John and Sarah Elizabeth Lowe Hoskins. Ms. Hoskins was a member of Frost Bottom Missionary Baptist Church. She had enjoyed gardening, canning and quilting for years. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hoskins was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Hoskins, Sam Hoskins, Hugh Hoskins and Albert Hoskins, and six sisters, Annie Lively, Tilda Hoskins, Roxie Hoskins, Francis Hoskins, Bertha Russell and Goldie SEIBER. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will follow at Butler Cemetery in Oliver Springs. Ms. Hoskins' nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. ~~~~ January 29, 2002 Artie Mae SEIBER Clinch River Baptist member Artie Mae SEIBER, 83, of Lake City, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. SEIBER was a member of Clinch River Baptist Church in Lake City. In earlier years, she was employed at the former Magnet Mills in Clinton for many years, and she later worked for other companies in LaFollette and Knoxville. She was the daughter of Walter G. and Nina Shillings Snow. Mrs. SEIBER was the widow of Elmer O. SEIBER, whom she married in 1938. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara SEIBER of Lake City; two sisters, Faye Burton of LaFollette and Mary Griffith of Greensboro, N.C.; her in-laws, Kenneth and Wanda Craig SEIBER, Maxie Braswell and Jean Snow; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. SEIBER was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray H. Snow and Jimmy D. Snow; two sisters, Fannie Moore and Margie Martin; her in-laws, Willie T. and Cora Lee Duncan SEIBER, Raleigh C. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. ~~~~ February 4, 2002 Wanda Faye MOORE Coalfield resident Wanda Faye Moore, 58, of Coalfield, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 3, 1943, in Coalfield, she was the daughter of Arvena A. Bedford of Coalfield and William Thomas Bedford, who is deceased. Mrs. Moore had been a lifelong resident of Coalfield. She had been employed by Kyser-Roth Industries for 22 years, by Red Kap Industries for six years, and Methodist Medical Center for four years. She was the widow of the Rev. William L. "W.L." Moore. She was a member of Elverton Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Moore is survived by three sons, William Darrell Moore and his wife, Linda, and Michael Jason Moore and his wife, Nikki, all of Coalfield, and James Dean Moore and his wife, Tena, of Clinton; two daughters, Thelma Rose SEIBER and her husband, Hubert, of Wartburg, and Lois Ann Campbell and her husband, Charles, of Harriman; 10 grandchildren, Jeff, Megan, Chris, Dustin, Charles, Jennifer, Adam, Daniel, LeiAnn and Brandon; and two great-grandsons, Guage and Wesley. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Feb. 4, at the funeral home. ~~~~ February 19, 2002 Leon 'Buster' BRADEN Retired from coal mines, schools Leon "Buster" Braden, 83, of Lake City, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Mariner Health of Norris. Mr. Braden was retired from the coal mines and from the Anderson County schools. He was a trustee of Fratersville Baptist Church, which he had attended ever since he and his wife, the late Mary Magdlene Braden, began dating. At the time of her death, the couple had been married for 55 years ago. Mr. Braden was a 58-year Mason and a member of Crystal Masonic Lodge No. 616 in Briceville. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, gardening and political campaigning, according to his family, who described him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Cox and her husband, Roy Jr.; two sons, Ronnie Braden and his wife, Connie Sue, and Benny Braden and his wife, Loretta, all of Lake City; two sisters, Ruth SEIBER of Lake City and Willene Brewer of Allen Park, Mich.; and a brother, Bob Braden and his wife, Linda, of Florida. Mr. Braden is also survived by his grandchildren, Lea Ann Cox and her fianc�, Scott Phillips, Robert L. "R.L." Braden and his wife, Melanie, Anthony Braden and his wife ,Melanie, Lori Idles and her husband, David, Tim Braden and his fianc�e, Heather McGuire, and Andy Braden; and his great-grandchildren, Nathan Braden, Caleb Braden, Faith Bryant, Justin Bryant and Emily Faye Idles. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. in the chapel. ~~~~ February 27, 2002 Freddie VANN Minister, retired builder Freddie Vann, 73, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Morgan County and had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Vann was a Primitive Baptist preacher for 49 years and a member of Elverton Baptist Church near Harriman. He was a retired builder and a member of local labor union No. 818. Mr. Vann is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ethel Vann; six daughters, Jewell Sledge and her husband, James, and Deanna Russell and her husband, Tim, all of Sweetwater, Ella Mae Lowe and Ramona Turpin and her husband, Danny, all of Oliver Springs, Wanda White and her husband, Chuck, of Riceville and Vickie Clark and her husband, Benny, of Oak Ridge; and three sons, Nathan Vann of Wartburg, Darrell Vann and his wife, Cissy, of Sweetwater, and Allen Vann and his wife, Misty, of Philadelphia. He is also survived by his mother, Rosie Vann of Oliver Springs; three brothers, Irvin Vann and Charles F. Vann, both of Oliver Springs, and Robert Vann Jr. of Coalfield; six sisters, Gladys Huston of Kingston, and Mildred SEEBER, Odessa Vann, Margaret Greene, Ida Ruffner and Naomi SEIBER, all of Oliver Springs; and by 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. SEIBER is survived by four daughters, Helen Lane and her husband, Bill, Bobbie Braden and her husband, Larry, Dessie Carroll and her husband, Eugene, all of Lake City, and Carolyn Dacko and her husband Rickey, of Houston, Texas; and five sons, Bob SEIBER, Edd SEIBER, Charlie SEIBER, Clyde SEIBER and Jessie Lyndon SEIBER and his wife Charlene, all of Lake City. Vann, 83, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born June 16, 1918, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Nellie SEIBER Queener, both now deceased. She had lived in this area all of her life. Mrs. Vann was a member of Tuppertown Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. Her family described her as a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed growing flowers and taking care of her lawn. She was the widow of Floyd Vann. Mrs. Vann is survived by two sons, Marvin L. Vann and his wife, Sarah J. Vann, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and LeRoy Vann and his wife, Betty Sue Vann, of Clinton; four daughters, Geraldine Rather and her husband, Jack, and Carolyn Morgan and her husband, Wayne, all of Oliver Springs, Margaret Howell and her husband, Dan, of Bedford, Pa., and Marcia Austin and her husband, Barry, of Lilburn, Ga.; and her sister, Geneva Vann of Oak Ridge. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. ~~~~ May 29, 2002 Gary Lee HACKLER ORNL dispatcher Gary Lee Hackler, 47, of Shannondoah Drive, Rockwood, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Hacker was a dispatcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 20 years. He was also a former police officer with the Rockwood and Kingston police departments as well as the Roane County Sheriff's Department, an emergency medical technician and a former member of the National Guard. He was a Lutheran. Mr. Hackler is survived by his son, Gary Andrew Hackler and his wife, Sarah Buck Hackler; his daughter, Erica Jane Hackler; and his granddaughter, Makayla Jane Watson, all of Rockwood. He is also survived by his mother, Carrie Cisson Hackler of Rockwood; two sisters, Patsy Duncan of Rockwood and Lisa SEIBER and her husband, Tony, of White Pine; a brother, Tommy Hackler and his wife, Robin, of Rockwood; his nieces, Kay Spakes and her husband, Billy, Angelia Cox and her husband, Michael, Patricia Page Norris and her husband, Eric, Melissa Page, Sarah Chaer and Keisha Kelly; and his nephews, Ronnie Duncan and his wife, Kim, Mark Page and Shane Hackler. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. ~~~~ June 11, 2002 Dovie BUNCH Morgan County native Dovie Bunch, 92, of Etowah, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah. She was a native of Morgan County and the daughter of James and Ellen SEIBER Daugherty. She had been a resident of Etowah for the past 26 years. Mrs. Bunch was a member of the Dixon Avenue Baptist Church in Englewood. She is survived by five daughters, Aline Turner and her husband, Roy, and Dora Jeffers and her husband, David, all of Clinton, Lily Doyle and her husband, Odis, of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Ellen Waugh and her husband, Omar, and Geraldine Elliott and her husband, Mackie, all of Etowah; and two sons, Raven Bunch and his wife, Geneva, of Oliver Springs, and Jesse Bunch and his wife, Frankie, of Clinton. Mrs. Bunch is also survived by her brother, Elmer Daugherty of Oliver Springs; two sisters, Aline Massengil and Spicy Duncan, both of Clinton; a son-in-law, Dave Garrison and his wife, Charlotte, of Cleveland, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Juanita McKamey of Clinton; and by 27 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven children, Memphis Bunch, Clethe Bunch, Stella Bunch, Carolyn Bunch, Jerry Bunch, Pauline Garrison and Charlene Jeffers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the funeral home. ~~~~ June 18, 2002 Leonard E. HACKER Retired Oliver Springs cobbler Leonard E. Hacker, 91, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Hacker was considered an expert cobbler and operated Hacker's Shoe Shop and Repair for 65 years. His family said he will be remembered by many for repairing their shoes, whether or not they had money. His shoe repair business often brought people from other states to his shop. He had also worked for 30 years as a funeral director for the former Booth Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. Mr. Hacker was a member of First Baptist Church of Oliver Springs. His wife of 69 years, Ola Hacker, died earlier. He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Hacker and Terry Hacker, both of Oliver Springs; a daughter, Mary Bradshaw of Oliver Springs; a brother, Alex Hacker of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Sadie Russell of Toledo, Ohio; and by seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Hacker considered Mary Blackburn of Oak Ridge, James and Carolyn Kelly of Oliver Springs, Martin and Onelda McCubbins of Asheville, N.C., and Larry Duke of Dixon very special friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander W. and Bertha J. Foster Hacker; his stepmother, Maude Mayton Hacker; four other brothers, Clerance Hacker, Dan Hacker, Harry Hacker and J.W. She was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Anderson County. She had lived in Oliver Springs most of her life, with the exception of eight years that she lived in Ohio. Mrs. Vann was employed for 14 years at Smokey Mountain Market of Oliver Springs. She was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her mother, Rosie Vann of Oliver Springs; her son, William Thomas Green and his wife, Sandra, of Opp, Ala.; her stepdaughters, Rhonda Wilson, Kathy Wilson and Diane Wilson, all of Ohio; and her grandchildren, Teresa Green, Mary Green and Lori Green, all of Ohio, and Diane Richburg and Kelly Norris, both of Alabama. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. ~~~~ September 20, 2002 Lloyd Earl SEEBER Retired coal miner Lloyd Earl SEEBER, 81, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at his home. Born Nov. 16, 1920, in Anderson County, he was the son of Rufuss SEEBER and Rosie Braden SEEBER. Mr. Seeber was a retired coal miner and had worked at Windrock, Briceville and Clinchmoore mines. He was a member of Friendly Welcome Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. His family said he enjoyed coon hunting, gardening, ginseng hunting and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Mr. SEEBER is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susie Phillips SEEBER; his son, Roy L. SEEBER of the Dutch Valley community; his daughter, Ann Townsend and her husband, Mike, of Oliver Springs; and his sister, Gertrude Mitchell of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Angie Silvey and Mikeial E. Townsend, both of Clinton, Marcella Bunch of the Dutch Valley community, Kisha Mosley, Tessa SEIBER and James Warren Fritts, all of Oliver Springs, and Brian Seeber of Lake City; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. ~~~~ September 30, 2002 Roxie Ann CARROLL Oliver Springs resident Roxie Ann Carroll, 93, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born July 4, 1909, in Anderson County. She and her family moved to Oliver Springs from Devonia in 1961. Mrs. Carroll was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Her family said she was a homemaker who received her greatest joy from her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping and traveling. She was the widow of Daniel Carroll. Mrs. Carroll is survived by four sons, Herman Carroll, Sherman Carroll and his wife, Opal, and Danny Carroll and his wife, Deloris, all of Oliver Springs, and Charles Ray Carroll of Atlanta, Ga.; and three daughters, Corrine Stittums and her husband, Billy, of Briceville, and Viola Easter and her husband, Curtis, and Maggie Carroll, all of Oliver Springs. She is also survived by her brother, Carl SEIBER of Knoxville; two sisters, Aileen SEIBER of Baltimore, Md., and Dellie Marlow of LaFollette; 47 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carroll considered William Taylor as one of her sons, and Dr. Anthony Garton was considered a special friend. Born July 21, 1941 in Anderson County, he was the son of Lummie Charles Harness and Flora Lowe Harness, who are deceased. He was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Harness was a retired plumber. He was a Baptist and a member of the Moose Lodge of Oak Ridge. He is survived by his wife, Ruby SEIBER Harness; two sons, Timothy Wayne Harness of the Marlow community of Anderson County and Davey Allan Harness of Oak Ridge; a brother, Emmitt Harness and his wife, Geraldine, of Anderson, Ind.; and four sisters, Ozie Bass and Retha Bass and her husband, Clyde, all of Oliver Springs, Ella Pickle of LaFollette and Motlaney Cook of Florida. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. ~~~~ 13 December 2002 Millard Vann ARMY World War II veteran Millard Vann, 82, of Heiskell, died from complications of Parkinson's disease Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at his home. Born June 20, 1920, in Clinton, he was the son of Will and Rachel Vann, both now deceased. A U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II, he retired in 1982 from Rentenbach Construction as an iron worker. He was a member of Iron Workers Local No. 384. He was also a Baptist. Mr. Vann is survived by his wife of 54 years, Verna Vann; his daughter, Vickie Sue Bradford; and his son, Michael L. Vann and his wife, Gwen, all of Heiskell. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Christopher Jason Vann, William Matthew Vann and Samantha Rose Bradford; a great-granddaughter, Brittney Alexis Vann; his sister, Dean Kolvek of Vandalia, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Born Jan. 12, 1907, in Rockwood, Mr. Blank was a lifelong resident of Roane County. He served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Trathen warship during World War II. He was member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. He was a farmer and coal miner and retired in 1969 from Union Carbide Nuclear Corp. as an employee at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. Mr. Blank is survived by his wife of 76 years, Gladys May Blank; sons Elden Eugene Blankenbeckler and his wife, Loretta, of Milton, Ind., and William Curtis Blank and Ronald Wayne Blank, both of Oliver Springs; daughters Betty Sue Martin and her husband, Bill, of Clinton, Jo Auchmoody and her husband, Richard, of Warren, Pa., and Beverly June SEIBER and her husband, Clayton, of Harriman; and by 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Jane Smith Blank; twin brother, Joseph Blank; and twin sister, Josephine Blank, who all died in June 1912; his father, William Robert Blank, who died in 1957; four children, Bobby Lee Blank, Marjorie Kathleen Daugherty, Francis Gregory Blank and Janet French; a brother, Carl Blank, who died in 1958; and a sister, Mayme Blank Webster, who died in 1991. Born Oct. 10, 1909, in Anderson County, she was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church where she was very active in the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of Eastern Star Coal Creek Chapter 226. She is survived by her sons, Wade Shultz of Gardendale, Ala. and Randall Shultz and his wife, Jo Ann, of Slocomb, Ala.; daughters, Georgia Line of Grayson, Ga., Glenna Koenig and her husband, Walter, of Renton, Wash. and Bobbie Goins of Knoxville; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford Hendren; and sister Edna Herren, both of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Shultz; parents, Marion and Ida SEIBER Hendren; brothers, Elmer and Bruce Hendren; sisters, Pearl and Elsie Hendren.
