February 8, 1999 Willard Clyde ADKINS Jr. Retired miner, auto worker Willard Clyde Adkins Jr., 59, of Coalfield, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge after a long illness. Mr. Adkins had lived in Pike County, Ky., and Detroit, Mich., and retired to Tennessee in 1984. He had worked as a coal miner and for an automobile manufacturing plant. A member of union Local No. 7 of the United Auto Workers of America, he served the union as vice president and as a committee man. He was born in Virginia on May 20, 1939. Mr. Adkins was an active member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. He sang in the church choir and also worked in the church's Bible Print Shop. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and beekeeping, the family said. Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife, Charlene Adkins; his daughter, Amanda June Adkins of Coalfield; and four sons, Bill Adkins and his wife, Jeanie, of Michigan, Michael Adkins and his wife, Julie, of Dryden, Mich., Rick Adkins and his wife, Diane, of Shelby, Mich., and Bruce Clyde Adkins of Coalfield. He is also survived by his mother, Mable Adkins of Oliver Springs; four brothers, James E. Adkins and his wife, Rose Mary, of Crossville, Bill H. Adkins and his wife, Carol, of Oak Ridge, Harold D. Adkins and his wife, Sandra, of Clinton, and George R. Adkins and his wife, Linda,, of Oliver Springs; and by six grandchildren, Shannon, Mike, Katie, Rick, Nick and Samantha Adkins. Freida SEIBER and her family, Vane Lyles and the late Arville SEIBER were considered special friends. His father, Willard Clyde Adkins Sr., and two other brothers, Dennie Hunt and J.S. Adkins, died earlier. The funeral was to be held at 11 this morning, Feb. 8, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Garvan Walls and the Rev. Billy Edmonds officiating. Burial was to follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs handled arrangements. ~~~~ May 14, 1999 Paul SEIBER Oak Ridge resident Paul SEIBER, 66, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. SEIBER is survived by two daughters, Pauline Trammell and her husband, Bosco, of New River, and Kathleen Tussey and her husband, John, of Versailles, Ind.; two sons, Robert SEIBER and his wife, Tracy, of Carlisle, Ohio, and Charles "Chuck" SEIBER and his wife, Kitty, of Waynesville, Ohio; two brothers, Vann SEIBER of Oliver Springs and Edward SEIBER of Coalfield; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. David SEIBER officiating. Burial will follow at the SEIBER Cemetery in the Frost Bottom community of Oliver Springs. Lowe, 66, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Lowe was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church of Oliver Springs. She was a homemaker. Born March 5, 1933, in the Devonia community of Anderson County, she was the daughter of Alonzo and Gertie Bray SEIBER. Mrs. Lowe had lived in Oliver Springs for the past 36 years. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Lowe; four children, John Wesley Lowe, James Lowe and his wife, Angela, Leon SEIBER and his wife, Joan, and Marilyn Sue SEIBER and her husband, Ronnie, all of Oliver Springs; five grandchildren, Michael Lively, Misty Lively, Amy Hail, Sheena Lowe and Skyler Lowe; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Lively, McKayla Lively, Aaron Hall and Angel Lively. Mrs. Lowe is also survived by two sisters, Annette Morrison of Oliver Springs and Glenna Bratcher and her husband, Frank, of Lake City; two brothers, Harley SEIBER and his wife, Pauline, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Carlos SEIBER and his wife, Jean, of Knoxville; and her aunt, Oma Giles of Oliver Springs. Dollie Green of Oak Ridge was considered a special friend. The funeral was to be held at 2 this afternoon, Aug. 16, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Daugherty officiating. Davis, 71, of Clinton, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at her home. Mrs. Davis was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton. She and her husband, Frank Davis, who is now deceased, owned the former Frank's Cash Store in Clinton. She was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Feb. 16, 1928, the daughter of Fred P. and Evelyn Alshire Bullard. Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Judith Scotts and her husband, Jim, of Harriman, and Penny Boyd of Clinton; her son, William Davis of Clinton; six grandchildren, Victoria L. Travis, Tisha White, Eric E. Davis, Jimmy Luke Scott, Johnathan A. Boyd and James M. Boyd; and four great-grandchildren, Teagan N. SEIBER, Eric White, Brianna White and Cailyn Travis. She is also survived by her sister, Thelma June McRoberts of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, James Bullard of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Donald Robb of New Albany, Ind.; and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, another brother, Fred Parker Bullard Jr., is deceased. The funeral was to be held at noon today, Sept. 6, at Poplar Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Dawson and the Rev. Henry Hensley officiating. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements. ~~~~ September 8, 1999 Joshua BARNETT Grandson of area residents Joshua Barnett, 20, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville of injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Monroe County. Mr. Barnett is survived by his parents, Mary and James Tate of Knoxville; two sisters, Thereza Barnett and her fianc�, Tom Rizzitiello, of Lenoir City, and Elisha Barnett and her fianc�, Jose Perez, of Knoxville; two brothers, John Barnett of Virginia and Willie Barnett and his wife, Heather, of Sweetwater; his maternal grandmother, Ellie Pegel of Oak Ridge; and his paternal grandmother, Lucille SEIBER of Oliver Springs. No funeral will be held. The family received friends Tuesday night, Sept. 7, at Highland Memorial Funeral Home in Knoxville. ~~~~ September 13, 1999 Joan Armes SEIBER Member of LDS in Oak Ridge Joan Armes SEIBER, 43, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday evening, Sept. 9, 1999, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints of Oak Ridge. Mrs. SEIBER is survived by her husband of 23 years, Leon SEIBER; her daughter, Amy Leann Hall of Oliver Springs; her grandson, Arron Andrew Hall of Oliver Springs; three brothers, Robert Armes of the Joyner community and Sam Daughtery and Steve Armes, both of Wartburg; and two sisters, Aileen Armes of Petros and Becky Pride of Oliver Springs. Her parents, Smith and Ellen Hamby Armes, are deceased. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. The Rev. Don Daughtery officiated. MOORE Retired from Union Carbide Millard Fillmore Moore, 98, of Summerville, S.C., died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in Greenville, S.C. Mr. Moore was a former resident of this area and had retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division on March 1, 1966. He was born in Campbell County on Feb. 15, 1901, the son of John Wesley and Sarah Lyke Moore. He had lived in Harriman and Coalfield for many years before moving to South Carolina. Mr. Moore is survived by his son, Johnny R. Moore and his wife, Verna Sue, of Glenn Rock, Pa.; his sister, Grace Carr of LaFollette; and 10 grandchildren. His wife, Stella Elizabeth Maples Moore, died earlier, as did his two daughters, Mitzi C. Thornton and S. Colleen SEIBER, and another sister, Lola Mealy. The funeral was to be held at 2 this afternoon, Sept. 23, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial was to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville. The obituary archived on the The Oak Ridger website. ~~~~ October 13, 1999 Carl PRATER Retired MMES employee Carl Prater, 58, of Harriman, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, in Gunnison, Colo., while on a hunting trip. Mr. Prater retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1994 after 21 years of employment. Born Oct. 4, 1941, in Roane County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and served during the Vietnam War. He had lived most of his life in Oliver Springs. He enjoyed many outdoor activities and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Prater was a member of Big Mountain Baptist Church of Coalfield. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mayron Wheaton Prater; his daughter, Vaneesa Prater McKinney and her husband, James, of Harriman; his son, Shannon Carl Prater and his wife, Tammy, of Philadelphia, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Summer, Mark and Zane McKinney, Whitney and Trisha Prater and Madison SEIBER; his mother, Lola Prater Redmon of Oliver Springs; three sisters, Wilma Myers, Sandra Byrge and Gail Clinton, all of Oliver Springs; and by several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He had several friends he enjoyed spending time with, his family said. His father, Clarence Prater, is deceased. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Big Mountain Baptist Church of Coalfield with the Rev. Charles Northrup officiating. Burial will follow at New Fairview Cemetery of Oliver Springs. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. ~~~~ November 2, 1999 Andrew Clarence ARCHER Jr. Rogers Group employee Andrew Clarence Archer Jr., 43, of Briceville, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in Knoxville of injuries sustained in a work-related accident in Knox County. Mr. Archer had been an employee of The Rogers Group for 17 years. He was an equipment operator. He was born in Florence, Ohio, on May 27, 1956, the son of Andrew Clarence and Dorla Thompson Archer, who survive him. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Archer was a member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church of Clinton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sheila SEIBER Archer; three children, Robert Scott Archer, Jessica Archer and Patricia Archer, all of Briceville; two brothers, Steven Archer and Jeff Archer and his wife, Sarah, all of Caldwell, Ohio; and two sisters, Deborah Neff and her husband, Shawn, and Sharon Moonney and her husband, Steve, all of Caldwell. Mr. Archer is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Ellen Kelley of Briceville; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Debra Kelley and Raymond Eugene and Tami Kelley, all of Oliver Springs, and Cheryl and Marvin SEIBER of Waleska, Ga.; and by several nieces and nephews, Brooke, Lesley, Alex, Kelly, Kendra, Stacy, Stephanie, Troy, Michael, Adam, Austin, Dakota, Travis and Jammie. "Toe Joe" SEIBER, 58, of Knoxville, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home following a short illness. Mr. SEIBER, a former resident of Devonia, was a retired construction worker. He was a Baptist. He is survived by Jean Daniels of Knoxville, a son, Danny SEIBER of Knoxville; a brother, Harley SEIBER and his wife, Pauline, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters, Annette Marrison of Oliver Springs and Glenith Bratcher and her husband, Frank, of Lake City. He is also survived by seven stepchildren, Pam, Lynne, Mark, Tim, Daniel, Derrick and Willa; and by 11 grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. Sandy Ferguson was considered a special friend. His parents, Alonzo and Gertie Bray SEIBER, two other brothers, Carvin SEIBER and Orlie SEIBER, and two sisters, Wanda SEIBER and Carrie Lowe, died earlier. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City. The Rev. Mark Daniels and the Rev. Don Daugherty will officiate.
