Hatton, 82, of 219 Marlow Circle, Clinton, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at his home. Mr. Hatton was a retired supervisor from South Central Bell in Oak Ridge where he worked for 39 years. Rev. Carpenter DUNCAN Longtime Oak Ridge resident Julia L. Carpenter Duncan, 81, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Duncan had been a longtime resident of Oak Ridge and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was the daughter of Harry and Nell Carpenter, both now deceased, and the widow of Charles Duncan. Mrs. Duncan is survived by a daughter, Charlene SEEBER and her husband, James, of Oliver Springs; a son, Rick Duncan and his wife, Traci, of Knoxville; a stepdaughter, Chloe Paulhus and her husband, Don, of Rhode Island; three grandchildren, Richard Childs, Caitlin Duncan and Kimberly Duncan, and an expected grandson, Andrew Duncan. Ruth Phillips and Bill Hensley were considered good friends. Two sisters, Sarah Carpenter and Eleanor Carpenter, died earlier. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Linda Judge McRae officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. ~~~~ April 16, 1998 Julia L. Carpenter DUNCAN Longtime Oak Ridge resident Updated Julia L. Carpenter Duncan, 81, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. A graveside service at Oak Ridge Memorial Park was to follow. ~~~~ June 5, 1998 Corey Wray Allen GANN Wartburg infant Corey Wray Allen Gann, the infant son of Kenneth Allen and Carmin Regnae SEEBER Gann of Wartburg, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. In addition to his parents, Corey is survived by his grandparents, Wanda SEEBER of Harriman and Harlan SEEBER and John L. and Elizabeth "Beth" Gann, all of Oliver Springs; and his great-grandmother, Evelyn Phillips of Oliver Springs. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. The Rev. Gary Smith will officiate. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling arrangements. ~~~~ July 27, 1998 Annie M. HARNESS Mother of area residents Annie M. Harness, 89, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at her home. Mrs. Harness was born June 4, 1909, in Briceville, the daughter of Robert and Mary Harness Roberts. She was a former resident of South Carolina for 46 years and had lived in Oliver Springs for the past three years. Mrs. Harness was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church of Givhans, S.C. She was a homemaker and the mother of 17 children. She was the widow of Clarence M. Harness. She is survived by two daughters, Lois Bass and her husband, the Rev. Bill Bass, and Audrey SEEBER and her husband, Ralph SEEBER, all of Oliver Springs; a son, Dee Harness and his wife, Mildred, of Givhans; two brothers, D.K. Roberts and the Rev. F.A. Roberts, both of Summerville, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Jerry Harness and his wife, Juanita, of Lake City; a sister-in-law, Nellie Harness of Oliver Springs; 34 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She has 91 direct descendants, the family said. Adele Harness of Lake City and Ruby White of Oliver Springs were considered special friends. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Laurel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Marlow, the Rev. Altman Harness, the Rev. Mark Bass and the Rev. Bill Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 27, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. ~~~~ August 14, 1998 Nellie Wilson ELLIOTT Liberty Baptist member Nellie Wilson Elliott, 76, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at her home. Mrs. Sherwood was a member of Hillvale Baptist Church. She was the daughter of William and Anna Belle Walker SEEBER. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Homer Sherwood; two daughters, Dotty Faye Charters of Apple Valley, Calif., and Janie Benham and her husband, Charles, of Claxton; her son, Bob Sherwood and his wife, Shirley, of Clinton; two brothers, William Charles SEEBER of Melbourne, Fla., and Earl SEEBER of Andersonville; and by 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Another daughter, Bernice Brooks, died earlier. The funeral will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. David Crowley and the Rev. Don Dunn officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at McCarty Woodhaven Cemetery in Claxton. The nephews will serve as pallbearers.
