Why I love Kagome
I love Kagome. She's tough and kind and smart and just great. One of my all-time favorite heroines. She can be a ditz sometimes but I can relate to her. More than I can to Kikyou, anyway.
I realized I don't 'hate' Kikyou, I just don't like her coming between Inuyasha and Kagome and being all manipulative and psycho-bitch-ish. Before she died (the first time) I was all for her and Inu's relationship. Good for them. It sucked that Naraku screwed it up and turned them against each other and all that. Then she died. Then Kagome comes into the picture.
She loves Inuyasha, despite all his faults, DESPITE his obsessive guilt over Kikyou's death and penchant for running after her. At the point she wished Kikyou was dead, she regretted that thought and decided to stay with Inu even though he still obsesses over Kikyou. I, for one, could not do that. I'm not that strong. I'd have wished her dead and hated her more. But Kags is better than that. She loves Inu more than she hates Kikyou coming between herself and him. That takes true strength. Even Inu/Kikyou fans and Kagome-haters have to acknowledge her strength and conviction in this action.
Not only does the decide to stay with Inu, she saves Kikyou multiple times. I beleive she does this simply for Inuyasha, who would feel bad all over again if she died (again). Saving your rival, someone who has tried to kill you and the person you love, is something not everybody would do. I'd let her die. I'm petty and get jealous easily. Kagome gets jealous, which is understandable, but saves Kikyou anyway. She is a bigger person than most, to save someone you hate.
It has been my belief that in the end, Inu will end up with Kagome. He'll get over his excessive guilt for Kikyou's death (he blames himself for not trusting her, but she's equally at fault for not trusting him) and see what's there right in front of him: A girl who loves him unconditionally. A girl who has gone out of her way to ensure his happiness, even so far as saving her rival from death. A girl that will stand by him no matter what form he takes. A girl that would do anything for him, anything to make him happy. She puts his happiness above hers by tolerating Kikyou and even rescuing her for Inu's sake. I believe one day he'll see what he has in Kagome, and will make peace with Kikyou's death and move on. He'd be a fool not to.
