TIME LORD -- A Doctor Who role-playing game

This is one of the 10 files comprising Doctor Who -- Time Lord, a pencil and paper role-playing game written by Ian Marsh and Peter Darvill-Evans. The files required to complete the set are:

PART1.PS -- An introduction to Doctor Who
PART2.PS -- An introduction to role-playing
PART3.PS -- The rules system
PART4A.PS -- The Doctors and their companions
PART4B.PS -- The aliens and the villains
PART4C.PS -- Time travel and the TARDIS
PART5A.PS -- Referee's Notes
PART5B.PS -- Curse of the Cyclops, an easy adventure
PART6.PS -- The Appendices. Designer's notes and character creation
PART7.PS -- A character sheet

All of them are Postscript files, so you will need a Postscript printer or a Postscript emulator such as Ghostscript to print them out. The pages are 90% reduced from A4 so should work on A4 and US letter paper and still give you a big enough margin to put the rules in a ring-binder. The files were revised on 12th August 1996 to eliminate some problems experienced by Ghostscript users and to correct some very minor typos.

The rules are virtually as they were written in 1991. They do not take account of the new Doctor Who movie. If anyone notices any discrepancies between these rules and the original book, please let me know. A nice friendly email will do.

Doctor Who -- Time Lord was originally published by Virgin Publishing in 1991 (ISBN 0426 203623), with illustrations by Colin Howard. It is out of print and only if you're lucky will you find a copy.

This electronically published edition is copyright 1996 Ian Marsh and Peter Darvill-Evans. It is published on the understanding that the rights to the book have reverted to the authors. If the worst comes to the worst, Virgin didn't buy the electronic rights anyway. Ho, ho, ho. Peter Darvill-Evans has very graciously given his consent as co-author to me republishing it.

Time Lord is freeware, but that doesn't mean you can go around abusing the authors' copyright and passing it off as your own work. Feel free to help distribute it.

The Postscript version is the first electronic release of Time Lord. It will eventually be followed by an HTML version. An Ascii version is available on Dr Ian McDonald's Who-RPG Home Page:

This site also contains a number of useful articles on Doctor Who role-playing.

If the Time Lord files have been passed to you by a friend on disk, you can also get support by emailing me direct or referring to my home page on:

Happy time travelling.
