TIME LORD -- A Doctor Who role-playing game

These are the Ascii files comprising Doctor Who -- Time Lord, a pencil and paper role-playing game written by Ian Marsh and Peter Darvill-Evans. The files required to complete the set are:

COVER.TXT -- Title, dedications and copyright info
PART1.TXT -- An introduction to Doctor Who
PART2.TXT -- An introduction to role-playing
PART3.TXT -- The rules system
PART4A.TXT -- The Doctors and their companions
PART4B.TXT -- The aliens and the villains
PART4C.TXT -- Time travel and the TARDIS
PART5A.TXT -- Referee's Notes
PART5B.TXT -- Curse of the Cyclops, an easy adventure
PART6.TXT -- The Appendices. Designer's notes and character creation

All the Ascii files are direct dumps from the original Quark XPress files used to create the Postscript files (available on my Web site at http://www.cygnet.co.uk/~orun/strange.htm). They will need considerable cleaning up before they are presentable -- they are a very raw source of the game rules. In addition, you will need to download the files for the tables and the graphics included with the game, and work out where they belong.

Notes about the tables and GIFs for the graphics are in the appropriate zip files. The tables are provided as tab-delimited Ascii files and need some work to be usable; the GIFs are crude but do the job.

In due course I will release an HTML version of the game which can be viewed using a Web browser. This will be released as a package of files for installation on a hard disk. The HTML version is intended to make it easy to refer to individual sections of the rules -- far handier than an index, which, by the way, Time Lord does not have.

The rules are virtually as they were written in 1991. They do not take account of the new Doctor Who movie. If anyone notices any discrepancies between these rules and the original book, please let me know. A nice friendly email will do.

Doctor Who -- Time Lord was originally published by Virgin Publishing in 1991 (ISBN 0426 203623), with illustrations by Colin Howard. It is out of print and only if you're lucky will you find a copy.

This electronically published edition is copyright 1996 Ian Marsh and Peter Darvill-Evans. It is published on the understanding that the rights to the book have reverted to the authors. Peter Darvill-Evans has very graciously given his consent as co-author to me republishing it.

Time Lord is freeware, but that doesn't mean you can go around abusing the authors' copyright and passing it off as your own work. Feel free to help distribute it.

Happy time travelling.
