Glendon Keele, P.I. Companion Page The Strips The story, "The Case of the Maltese Lion," contains 16 strips in black-and-white. There is an extra strip, "art detective," which is not connected with the story and is done in pencil. This comic appeared in the York University campus newspaper, "Excalibur," in 2003- 2004. It's packed as full as possible with York U jokes. Here is a list for those who don't know York. The Characters: Glendon Keele is named after York's two campuses. The Halls, Vari, Curtis L. and Stedman L., are named for various Keele campus buildings. The L stands for "lecture". Mr. Carlton and Mr. Ryerson are named after other universities. Mr. Sheridan is named after a college. I'm not sure why, but he's francophone. Mr. Osgoode, the Hall's lawyer, is named after a law school. Other stuff: Glendon Keele's office number, 4700, is the same as the Keele campus's address. York's mascot is the lion, and formerly the yeoman. The goon threatening Ryerson is collecting for the Registrar (and demanding an arm and a leg) The police station has enormous lines, as offices at York are reputed to have. Mr. Hall has been keeping up with the case through Excalibur. Curtis Hall is a "refrigerator magnate". The maltese lion is obviously a reference to the Maltese Falcon. The "art detective" strip is a reference to Jackson Pollock.
