Well, here is one of my more geekish hobbies: making felt dolls of anime
characters. I've made eight of these things so far, and what I've learned:
Measure twice, cut once. Felt doesn't come in the same colors as cartoons.
The hair is always a bitch. Man, does that stuff pick up lint. I'm not aiming
for perfect with them, just recognizable and possibly cute.
I've added images of the original characters for comparison.
Obligatory legal grot: these characters belong to their respective creators,
I'm not making any money on them, yada yada.

Character: Rou
Series: Eagle Princess (my own story)
This is the first doll I ever made. Rou is an original character of mine, so
if I wanted a plushie of him I was going to have to make it myself. At this point,
I was still figuring out the best way to make the dolls, so some parts of the construction
are different from the later dolls. Yes, those are wolf ears sticking out of his head.
Character: Balmung
Series: .hack
I made this one at the same time as the Rou doll. Balmung was my bishie crush at the time. ^^;
As you can see, he's upright, but he can't stand on his own. The rest of the dolls are all
sitting down. The armor was really complicated to put together, but I like how it came out. The wings
are made of marabou feathers.
Character: Allan Schezar
Series: Escaflowne
I made Allan as a Christmas present for a friend who cosplays as him. Having learned from the
last two, I got more systematic with him; he's the first doll with the "standard" torso and leg patterns,
as well as the Y-top hair (Rou and Balmung have side-seam hair). I saw him again about a year later, he'd
gotten quite pilled ...
Character: Kuchiki Byakuya
Series: Bleach
Those hair ornaments were a royal %#@#& to sew into place. Byakuya is the tall, dark and ambiguous
character in my bishie collection. ^^ And he's a badass too, what's not to like? By now I'd gotten
the hang of the dolls so besides the head it wasn't too hard. I had to make a new pattern for the coat
though. In the inset you can see the paintwork on the back.
Character: Vegeta
Series: Dragonball
Yet another bad boy character. It's an obsession I tell you! As you can imagine the work on this
head was unbelievable. (yes, his hair is supposed to be yellow; he's in Super Saiyan mode.)
The painting on the armor took a little work too.
Character: Tessa Testarossa
Series: Full Metal Panic
I made Tessa on request from the friend who has Allan. (wanted a "daughter" to go with the
"son"!)This is the first female doll I tried. I think the bosom didn't come out quite right,
but the shoes are good. The braid, though ... I sewed it together inside out, and I literally needed
pliers to turn it out. Urk.
Character: Allucard
Series: Hellsing
I made this one as a Christmas present for a friend who's a horror fan.
This is quite possibly the cutest version of Alucard I have ever seen. This is
the first character with a hat; it's a little small for him, but I think
that works
in the cute department.
Character: Geisha
Series: none
A Christmas present for a friend who's not an anime fan. Just a generic geisha.
You can see the bow on the back of her obi, I'm proud of that.
And I tried using a stencil for some of the paint work, but it came out funny.
Character: Ryuhou
Series: Scryed
Third in a series: "the usual suspects". What is it about angsty bad boys?
Also, it's funny that the doll came out chubby when the original design is
so skinny.
