North of Poland, turn east and go see the dam. It is a great place to take a break with extremely clean restrooms.
The purpose of the dam is to maintain  water level and to provide locks for passage up and down the steps.  In all my visits, I've only seen one barge and it was docked.. There are 5 or 6 more dams further north, each with simular facilities, including picnic area and boat ramps.
I could have barbecued a burger but I was low on charcoal.
And, what would Roberson Bridge cross?
I had negociated south Alexandria and now was on the west side of US.71 heading west on the back roads west of LSU at Alexandria. Go Tigers.
Established in 1894 it is a newcomer on the block. It's a Catholic Church.
To the right of the big house are two small houses on poles. They are Purple Martin houses.
Purple Martin is not a rap singer.
The Baptist were here first. Of course that is misinformation since we all know that Catholic countries settled Louisiana in the beginning.
"1867" is not the address.
This was a home, not a house. I'll bet.
The side porch adjacent to the kitchen is common architecture. The size of this place is not that common. At least, not anymore. Sigh.
(Andymade sighing an accepted internet expression, thanks Andy)
Of course, Robertson Bridge crosses Bayou Boeuf. Sigh, it is a thing of beauty.
This is a bird.
Gotchagin..
Ok, here's a quiz. What lies to the west of the Boeuf. We're going there.
