From the park I rode a few miles east until I reached the intersection of MS 26 and MS 43. I zoomed northeast on my newly learned route to Lumberton. That can be found in the 3 Daze Ride as I mentioned before. At Lumberton I went east on MS13 until I turned north on my first Oldie of the day, Old US 11, which is marked but you have to look for it. It had been part of my route to Brooklyn. I hadn't really soaked up it aunviance (dat's Fr.) because I'd been so consumed by getting to Brooklyn's big star attraction. Old 11, as seen drawn in purple, was not the direct route to Purvis, thus New 11 replaced it. It is a pleasant road but it didn't really give up any striking Kodak Moments. I followed Old 11 across New 11 into Purvis and the road changed names to MLK, like many do. MLK led to the little store below. I immediately recognized it from a picture Ray Fagan had sent me. It had been taken on one of his and Sargeant Sargeant's rides into the area. It is a picture I know I still have but has probably made its way onto one of those forever lost CD's you put stuff on so it won't be lost. Irony?
I think he got the whole store, his and Sargeant Sargeant's bike into his picture. It took me 3 shots. Maybe I should have backed up?
Photography involves a lot of technique.
Fred, the signs are collectibles. They do not reflect real businesses or products, for the most part, actually sold on the premisses.I didn't go in as I rarely go in anywhere. Going in takes time and I was still carrying the dust from the chain operation. Dust doesn't come off unles you go real fast and then sometimes it doesn't. Ah, that's just an excuse. I'm not a going in person to be honest. If on these rides I go in, it is a special magnet that draws me. I go into a lot of cemeteries. I have no problem there? Dead people are easy.
Oops, way too much information, sorry.
But, Fred, maybe those businesses and products are actually present in that building? How could I have made that assumption without actually going in? Listen, I know you are going to ride the route just so you can complain. When you get to Purvis, go in and count as many matches to products and businesses that the signs reflect. Then mark the ones that are just collectibles. Then you can do your whining thing when you make your report to me.
For the "Courthouses of Mississippi" collectors, here's Lamar County's.
I left Purvis, north on MS.589. Old 11 is not marked well as it veers off that road shorly outside of town. It is the first road that leaves at a 45 degree angle to the main road.
Don't miss it because it is the door to some good stuff.
