La.412 hits 955 which you take south to 956 and that hits US.61 south of St.Francisville. I rode to St.Fran where I caught the ferry across the Mississippi. Next to the ferry landing these folks were fishing. This picture depicts a normal Louisiana outing. They are fishing in a big pond, the Father of Waters, so the Indians called it.    That purple and gold folding chair is in LSU motif. LSU is a religion in Louisiana. Huey Long endorsed the state's largest university bringing with that endorsement, universal support from those who never went there..
That is theory, but I bet it is well founded.
The great folks of the trans-St.Francisville / New Roads Ferry always take care of me by extending that personal attention to which I have become accustomed. My bow position again awaited. Heading up a prestigious online publication does have its perks.
Following the GPS to bypass New Roads, it led me down Major Rd. There was a community called "Major" there at one time. The Topo software shows all the old names which is great for what I do.
I passed a large recreational park and saw the caboose in the middle of a field. It was in horrible shape. I think it had been donated because it had been in a wreck. It was obvious that New Roads has done nothing to enhance it. Most entrances were welded over with rusting steel plate. All but one.

From New Roads and False River, I took the long boring ride down US.190 to Krotz Springs where I was too lazy to turn around and shoot the bridge.
Surprise, it worked.
Below is from the KS Calendar published in 2006 and 2007. Ray D. contributed these pictures.
The first picture is Krotz Springs as I first remember it from those long 325 mile rides from New Orleans to Shreveport.in un-airconditioned cars. AC wasn't needed by us as long as we had a breeze. Mom and Dad smoking did cause occasional throwup stops. Sorry if you were eating.
The HLOkA Bridge is named so probably to remind the voters who put it there.
OK Allen was Huey's puppet governor after Huey had left for Washington. His name joins Hueys probably for future campaign reasons. I just thought of that.
Melville would have been the more reasonable route for US190, but Huey was not welcomed there and it was bypassed for eternity. Huey was powerful. His influence has never left La. The old bridges are being replaced without a reminder of the  previously named. We are still stuck with Huey Wantobees. That is changing, also. Blanco, the Wicked Witch of Katrina may be the last of the Populace Governors for a while, I hope.
Below is the last of the HLOkA Bridge, to the right. It would be replaced in the 1980's.
The flood of 1973 was close to topping the levee in KS. It was the worst I remember.
That's the train bridge, but something looks to be missing. Maybe it's just swung open for a boat to pass. Whatever?
From there I trained my sights on home, 45  long miles away.
