Religious or Spiritual Worship

The true way of worshipping God is through private prayer. Jesus taught us this.

"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites.  For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men.  Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.  But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." - Matthew 6:5-6

Not only did Jesus teach us this, He worshipped the Father this way.

"...Sit here while I go pray over there."  "He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed..." - Matthew 26:36,39

This is worshipping God in spirit and in truth.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." - John 4:24

This is an amazing revelation!  The only true worship of God is spiritual, not religious and ritualistic. A religious and ritualistic way of worshipping God is only to be seen of men.  Any other form of worshipping God is wrong.  Jesus Himself condemned all religious worship of God when He quoted Isaiah.

"...Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.  And in vain they worship Me.  Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." - Mark 7:6-7

True worship of God is spiritual, unseen by other men, where we can only fool ourselves and no one else.
