Before & After
We bought a 100yr old victorian style home back in June '02.  After our purchase, we promptly moved our little family into my in-laws basement, and began a major remodel project.  The house was last updated in the early 70's  (lots of fake-wood paneling & 2" greenish-brown shag carpet througout), so we were eager to get in there and make it our own style (do we have a "style" Heather?)   After about 2 months of work, work, work, , we moved in.

Here are some pics of our ongoing work-in-progress...
Dining room - I like the cool sitting window & waynes coating.  We ripped out the carpet & had a guy put in some laminant floor (looks like hardwood).  I liked the idea of lower-priced carpet in the dining area, & I initially resisted H's idea of laminant.  With our two not-so-clean boys (okay, I get into my food too),...  I hate to admit that Heather was right. Me wrong, you right, me wrong, you right...
The Stair Way - This area was the most work of all.  I thought we'd peel off the Brady Bunch-paneling to find some fairly good plaster walls.   We found all kinds of stuff under there.  Some of the walls had chunks of unfinished drywall (glueing surface for paneling), some had really bad, crumbling plaster, and some had no wall at all!   All the plaster had to go, so we could hang drywall.  Jim (H's dad) was an animal.  He grabbed a big putty knife & a hammer and ripped out the entire stairwell in half a day!  It took about a week for the dust to settle.
More Stairway - Jim, H's Uncle John, & I spent another day hanging drywall on this 15' tall rickety do-it-yourself scaffolding.  It's pretty high up to that ceiling!  We made a good team.  Thanks again you guys!

The stairs are really hard & steep and the boys rooms are up there, so we had carpet installed w/ the heaviest padding they make.  That way if they slip & cartwheel down the stairs, it won't wake us up.  Ha!
Heather's Project -->
Colby's room.  While I was playing destructo-man downstairs, H was peeling off old green wall paper & a lot of the wall was coming off with it.   Bummer.  She then learned the fine art of sculpting & reconstructed the original walls.  They now have this cool stucco-like finish with a cool Mediterranian-multi tone, yellow color.  Nice job, Sweetie.
Living room
I've got to find a good "before" pic of that room...  we ripped out the old acoustic tile ceiling, paneling, & shag.  It looks so different now.  It's a great room with cool lines.  I really like the semi-hexagon shaped bay window in the front.  Lots of character.  Some of the windows have the original wavey glass in them.  Sweet.

We've got lots more work to do, but we love the place.
