| SeegerOlympics History The roots of the modern SeegerOlympic Games go back to June 31, 2002. Andy Seeger, Tim Seeger & Joel Seeger were engaged in a discussion about who would win the upcoming World Cup Final game, Germany or Brazil, what the U.S. team could have done differently to beat Germany and who had in fact made the most holes in walls (and ceilings) in the Seeger houses when one of them (it doesn't really matter who, because really all of them were thinking it) said something to the effect of, "You know, I can beat you two at anything. I think in fact there is no single event, game, puzzle or contest that I cannot beat you at." And that's how it all started. Of course, the roots of our arrogance, what really turned us all into foolish braggarts goes back a lot farther. Games have been a big part of our family since we got off the boat from Norway, and Germany, and Scotland and elsewhere. And as long as Seegers have been playing games they've been assuming that they will win. The first event was predicting the winner and goal scorers of the Germany/Brazil game. We were all wrong (selecting Germany as World Cup Champions) but Andy won that first event by the skin of his teeth. Andy ended up winning the overall competition last year. He had a sizeable lead going into the final weeks, stalled on picking some events and eventually squeezed by with a victory. As champion, Andy was awarded the coveted Dick Koch Trophy. The monument gets its name from Dick Koch who won back-to-back-to-back Championships in the late 1960's. This was before statistics were kept on other competitors' scores, number of events played or weather, so its impossible to tell just how dominant he was during this period, or what the dew point or relative humidity were, but it is clear, through his Three-Peat (please deposit $0.38 in the accounts of both Pat Riley and Phil Jackson each time you read this, because i can't remember which of them actually has the trademark on the phrase Three-Peat)(please deposit another $0.38) that he was hands down the reigning champion of the Ancient Games. Someday, a Seeger might hope to achieve what Dick Koch once did, but that day is not today. |
