HANDOUT FOR BULLETIN:

Dear Pastors, Secretaries, Bulletin Editors, Lay Leaders,

Below is a bulletin notice for your SE Deanery Parish Bulletin

concerning our SED Adult Faith Formation Program.

Dec. 6, 2008 will be here before we know it.

Please pass copies of this flyer out to leaders:

the “directors” of Eucharistic Ministers including lectors, the leaders of the parish, ACTS community leaders, head of religious education, heads of various organizations in the parish, for example: Choir, Ushers, Guadalupana Society, Altar Society, Ministers to the sick, St. Vincent DePaul.

Please ask them to inform their group and

encourage their group to participate.

A couple of years ago we opened this up to everyone and

NO ONE CAME.

We have learned that selected leaders and heads of groups have to be enlisted to encourage people to participate.

You SED Pastoral Council member is willing to help promote.

May we recommend a Sunday announcement for people to be alerted to the info in the bulletin.

Thank you for all your help.

Nothing happens without your support and efforts.

Thank you and God bless you.

Peace,   Maury

SED Profile of Goals.

The purpose of this profile is to evaluate current goals and perhaps establish new goals.

Unitas Marriage Preparation, Thursday Nights 7:30 to 9:30 pm.

Seven week two hour sessions, five programs per year to accommodate the schedule of

engaged couples.

SED Youth Ministry

The principle has been to bring the youth of the deanery together to give them a larger sense of Church

and to be able to do things that some individual parishes would not be able to do by themselves such as the annual youth retreat.

We participate together on the World Youth Day.

Once a year we have as it has evolved a mini-retreat with a Mass and social.

The Youth Ministers decided to have only a few deanery programs per year so as not to interfere with the parish youth program.

The deanery program does not replace the parish program, it augments it.

Secretary’s  continuing education every two months.

Annual Leadership Gathering. This coming year it will be August 22, 2009 at OLPH.

Adult Faith Formation in Advent and Lent of each year.

This year the focus is on Catholicism 101, Living Your Catholic Faith Day to Day.

This is a two part program: Advent, Dec. 6, 2008 and Lent, Feb. 28, 2009.

The Bible Study Program is a one shot program this year.

            October 1 and 8, 2008 and a repeat March 5 and 12, 2009 at St. Cecilia.

One year we did Come Home For Christmas evangelization program.

A couple of years ago I worked with the St. Vincent DePaul for two year.

It was helpful but since the deanery covers several St. Vincent DePaul areas and the

St. Vincent already has many meetings; it became too many meetings.

On a few occasions we have had a series of speakers for the priest’s of the deanery,

for example a series on why people cease to come to programs.

Another time we studied together the research on Excellent Catholic Parishes.

We have also had special days on Marriage Preparation, Liturgical Training,

Setting our Core Values and Goals and on Future Planning.

As a follow up to the Leadership Gathering on Evangelization I met with the parish animators

to help with their planning, execution and support for a year.

DRC communication with the priests of the deanery through email.

I sometime wonder if what I send to the priests and secretaries gets to the potential participants for our various programs.

I do not get the impression that our  SED web page is used.

We use to have Eucharistic Ministers and Lector workshops most years until the last document from Rome.
