PETITION
Citizens of Sedona and
area residents who visit the city for business or pleasure are concerned about
the City’s use of herbicides. These chemicals are known to harm human
health, pets, wildlife and the ecosystem. Groups that are especially
vulnerable to herbicide exposure include children, the elderly, and those who,
through previous exposure, suffer from acute chemical sensitivities.
Successful herbicide-free weed control programs are already in place in a
growing number of communities across the

MOTION:
Councilor Bradshaw moved to direct staff and the city manager to research the following to eliminate the use of all herbicides as soon as possible but taking no longer than one year.
The motion failed for lack of a second.
MOTION: Councilor
VOTE: The motion passed, seven (7) for and zero (0) against.
MOTION: Councilor Gomez moved to use alternative methods during the four month trial period to abate weeds. The motion was seconded by Councilor Stearn. VOTE: The motion passed, seven (7) for and zero (0) against.

Turner of Vibrant Sedona presented
a copy of the video TRADE SECRETS: A
MOYERS REPORT to the Sedona City Council.
MOTION: Councilor
Bradshaw moved to approve an integrated management program with spraying to be suspended
during the months of November through February and spraying of herbicides not
to be done more than four months per year on all City properties, direct Staff
to bring back a long term plan to further reduce the use of herbicides within a
year, and that the plan be reviewed annually. The motion was seconded by
Councilor Gomez.
VOTE: The
motion passed, five (5) for and two (2) against; Vice Mayor Frey and Councilor
Adams against.

the open forum of the meeting against the resumption of spraying, the council
voted to reconsider the issue on

Pesticide/Herbicide
use: I support the ban on synthetic pesticides/herbicides from being used
in public areas in Sedona and want the city to use only safe and natural means
of weed and pest control.

this on the

motion passed, six (6) for and zero (0) against; Councilor Stearn
excused.
