SEDIP: An Overview

The
Secondary Education Development and Improvement Project (SEDIP) is a loan assistance package aimed to improve equitable access to quality secondary education in 26 SRA provinces. The project  is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

The Department of Education (DepEd) exercises responsibility for the implementation of SEDIP. A National Project Management Office (NPMO) oversees the day-to-day operation and management of the project. The NPMO is attached to the Bureau of Secondary Education.

Implementation activities in the project provinces is managed by the Division Offices in close consultation with the DepEd Central and Regional Offices.

Project Cost:

The project is co-financed by the ADB and JBIC with GOP contribution.

The total project covers In-Service Training (INSET), School Facilities Improvement and furniture procurement, supply and delivery of textbooks, school and non-school equipment, High School Innovation Fund, Capacity Building, Project Monitoring and Evaluation System, Decentralization Initiatives, Project Management and Consulting Services.

The intervention on school facilities improvement and procurement of school furniture and equipment and attendant consutlting services is covered under the JBIC loan.

Project Purposes:

C.1. Increase Student Achievement Rate

      � Enhance School Heads capability to provide instructional support to teachers
      � Improve teachers�  subject knowledge and skills
      � Improve  availability of learning resources
      � Improve physical environment for learning
      � Implement High School Innovation Fund (HSIF) projects

C.2. Increase Participation Rate

      � Establish new schools  in underserved areas
      � Establish program for student retention

C.3. Develop capacity of Division and School Heads in managing basic      
        education services


     � Develop leadership and management capacity at school and division
     � Develop division and school-based INSET program
